VIR full course Dec 8-9 drivers: what brakes are you using? (yeah, another brake question)
Yeah, another brake pad question, but I've never seen a brake poll for this specific track...
Thanks
Thanks
Oh, I forgot to mention please only vote if you've driven this track before or will be participating in this upcoming event (whether you've driven it or not).
After my fallout with Hawk Blues, it looks like just rivited pads for me, which = carbotech panther plus.. Can't wait for the new compound to come out!
I'll probably put what's left of my HP+s for the event, if I scorch them, I'll have a set CP+ and OEMs on reserve
There is no such thing as an HPS+. There IS an HPS and an HP+.
If I was there, I would be on my Hawk Blues on the Integra, or Carbotech P+ on the WRX if I'd have gotten off my lazy bum and sent them a tracing to have them constructed. Though, I'm going to have to call this week and inquire about the Panther Platinum.

I have never driven there, but I'll be using my one time used Panther +, with some Hawk HP+ as backup, and if I burn them up, there's always the factory pads. Hell, I'll just bring all the brake parts I have laying around. (Rotors, whatever else)
Does i count if ill be driving at Sebring the same day?? If so, Sebring full course, 5 hours track time. Carbotech Panther +!!!! Me and my friend are having a spec battle with his Blues, it will be a joke for him.

Ok, call me uninformed, but why's everyone so down on the R4 and R4s pads from porterfield? Is there something I should know?
I have a set of R4S's I need to burn. Is this an unwise choise for VIR (never run there before).. I will be there. (with brake ducts and 4 pot brakes this time - this time maybe I can stop...).

R4S will last 1 weekend at VIR... if you are lucky.
4doorH22... bring good pads... I want that car to STOP if I'm in it.
I would like to be on Blues, but given my longstanding luck with getting brake pads... there is NO telling what I'll be able to aquire in the next few weeks... I may be on reminant HT-8s... we'll see...

The R4S pads are great for street and auto-x, but I nearly vaporized a set at Summit Point last weekend. They just go away too fast when you're stopping from 115-120 MPH. I think the only gripe about the R4 pads is the price. Hope so, since that's what I'll have at VIR.
I'm sure eveyone's heard of Corey's R4Ss wearing down to the backing plate (sparks, fire) after 2 days at Summit Point main course.
The Panther Plus' (which I'll be using r2x) must be more track worthy than the R4S, right?
Edit: Granted Corey was turning in 1:34s on half course on big V700s which is severe duty for any pad, too bad the Blues delaminated.

I like the R4S but I am a total wimp when it comes to braking.
I just can't stomach super hard braking when it's not racing,
and when pads are so expensive (and short-lived) for FWD
cars especially. I'm also the kind of guy who goes from 3rd
to 5th on the straightaways...
I like the R4 a lot but they require their own payment plan.
I am planning to put Panther+ on MaddMatt's car so I can
drive it at VIR.

Bl00s if there is no rain.
If there is rain.. R4's of some sort... (R4's/R4E)
Maybe another set of Autozone rotors also. Gotta love $25 rotors that work better than the Hond a ones.

Dave,
I would go with the Panther Plus. Of course I have no experience with any other performance pad but can say that my pedal never faded all weekend at Summit and I think I am a pretty hard on brakes. Call Andie. That is my advice. Also don't forget of your new tire size, that makes a difference

i think that you will be happy
you know that you will have to form most of your own opinions on brakes because of things like different driving styles and car setup
one example being: the wheels you got from Corey don't have the gap in them like my K1's allowing less air to get to the brakes and less air to leave the brakes

Oh I'm not using this poll to find out what pads I should use. I've already got mine. I thought it'd just be an interesting and informative poll.
So if you bought pads a month ago then why the hell are you asking which pads now?!! Are you feeling bad about your purchase and wanted to validate it or something?
The info gained from a thread such as this is much better prior to a purchase.
FYI - I run the Blues . . .
