Suspension Questions
Hey guys i just got tein basic dampers for my 00' prelude, i am a little unsure about what to do on the install. Is it a difficult task or fairly reasonable, any tips about installation?
Mine was pretty easy on my 92 Si. Taking out my OEM suspension was a little tedious. The ball joints were the most time consuming. All it takes is a little creativity and a ball joint separator tool.
Putting the suspension back together is easier.
I actually JUST FINISHED insalling my suspension. I need to raise the rear a little.
Good luck.

if you havent done any suspension work on a prelude before, i'd suggest having someone do it for you (not neccessarily paying a shop to, but maybe a friend who has done suspension work). out of all the hondas i've worked on the prelude suspension is the most difficult thus far. you will definately need a spring compressor to take out the stock compression. its difficult without it. when installing the basics, for the easiest installation make sure its set to the lowest height, that way it just slips into the wheel well with no problems. after its in, then adjust the height accordingly.
hey AndyD, why did you have to remove the ball joint to take out your rear suspension? i've worked on a 4th gen and my 5th gen and never had to do that. what do you speak of? just wondering

I have NO IDEA how you were able to get your shocks off without detaching the ball joint. Were the shocks you took out OEM?? Aftermarket??
I tried and there was NO WAY I could get them out. Here is a writeup of how to install shocks on a Prelude. They say you have to too. I tried not taking out the joint and it was impossible.
As for Prelude suspensions being harder than other Hondas. I don't know if that is true either. I helped my friend do his Integra AND Civic and it was the SAME EXACT procedure.

the procedures are the same but me, as well as others, have had problems taking out the rear suspension (OEM suspension, its easier with aftermarket).
as for ball joint removal, yeah i never have to remove it. which is probably why i have a harder time than you in removing the OEM suspension
in the integs/civics/accords i can push down with my foot on the rotor and can remove the suspension. in the lude, i can have 2 people pushing down and there still isnt enough clearance to take out the suspension

I have no idea what he is talking about either. I installed a suspension of both a 4th Gen and a 5th Gen. I HAD to take the ball joint off both times. There was NO WAY around it.
Having people stand on the spindel down't sound like a good idea in the first place.

I had to when I did mine.... Actually my SH required removed a front lower ball joint as well. Don't worry, it's really not that hard. Just use the tool shown in the writeup at http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fift...shtml and you can get it off in 2 minutes. You can get one for like $6 at harborfreight. http://www.harborfreight.com/c...36861
