Re: crazy tach (turborex)
Check the connectors on the ignitor (inside the distributor) take a look at this pic. You can see a few of the wires that go to the ignitor on my old distributor. (something was making a rust powder all over it??? it ended up being a rusty screw head being ground up in the dist gear) If that does not fix it, the ignition unit in the steering column can cause the same thing. Other symptoms will be car dying and hard time starting the car. (turning it over like 10 times to start it) The solder joints melt and actuall connect more than one contact point. That is what happend in my case.

Re: crazy tach (DOHC DX)
Excuse my ignorance, but what part is the ignitor? I have a jumpy tach and took my distributor off this weekend. I looked at all the parts and everything looks ok (to me). I want to try and tighten the connections on the ignitor to see if that helps...
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: crazy tach (breaka_1_9)
ok this happened to me and the shaft that goes into the dizzy the bearing went out. i mean you couldn't turn it at all. so we rebuilt one with parts from another one. sometimes the sensors can come loosed too but if you can't turn that shaft by hand i bet you it is that bearing

Re: crazy tach (Trinity)
take off the cap, and the plastic thing behind the rotor, there is a blue wire thats for the tach, make sure it has a good connection. that should help your jumpy tach.
