S2000 to get a slushbox in the future....aack the horror!
From VTEC.net:
The autoascii24.com website is reporting that during the Tokyo Motor Show, Honda announced the planned availability of a 6-speed ZF-sourced automatic transmission for the S2000.
Here is the link for the article on autoascii24.com autoacsii24.com
And HondaF1.vtec.net's Matt Rinehart has provided a translation below:
A six speed AT will be added to the S2000. The best candidate for the transmission is German transmission maker's ZF's 6-speed AT.
ZF's transmissions are used in BMW's & MB's as OEM.
It has a high level "speed change control system", but it has never been used in domestic (JDM) cars because of the high price.
The S2000 possibly can be the first car with the ZF transmission.
Also, just below that bit, Honda's President, Yohsino, commented that the CTR and S2000 will have a custom color plan available for Japan.
Why why why?

I dont know, if its the same sequential trans available in the M3 it might be sweet. Its paddle shifted and can shift gears in 80 Miliseconds. Thats faster than me, and with lesss margin of error..
The added weight of the automatic paddle shifter is not worth it IMO - we're talking about a car with a small displacement low-torque motor. Added weight sucks! M3s and Ferrari V8s are a different story.
one of the reasons as to why the S2000 isnt a big seller in Japan is because of the lack of an auto tranny. The other reason is lack of torque; which is supposedly being ailed within a couple of years with a bump in displacement to 2200cc.
Hopefully the added weight from the auto-tranny will be offset by the added torque
