Make sure it is approved! That is #1... If you don't have the skills to build a proper bulkhead then don't try, take it to someone who does. Also contact the manufactuer and special order one with a 3rd inlet on the top of the cell, you will need this for the fuel return line that you need in a fuel injected car and it is much eaiser if you have them do it rather than you drilling into the cell.

Fuel Safe and ATL are the leaduing fuel cell companies. Check your racing class rules to clearly see what is allowed and what is not allowed as it changes. Many real racing organizations don't allow the cheap rotary molded drag race cells so a proper cell may run you $600+ installation effort.

When selecting a cell, also decide if you are going to use an electric pump submerged in the cell or not (I did as they are dead relaible and always run cooler) so you will need to deal with passing wires through the bulkhead.

Do some seaches about fuel cells as there have been several good threads. If you are doing this to be interesting on the street and it is not really needed for racing, stick to your stock tank. Cells are expensive and usually require a lot of fabrication work. It isn't a good project if you just want your homies on the street to think you are cool.

HAHA! Yeah, I know!

This is for a "race" car that never see's the street. I have a guy helping me do all the fabrication work on the car, and he suggested I look into getting one so we could put it in!

Thanks for the info ya'll!

grab an ATL catalog or go their website if you can. They can make a mold of what you need to replace the stock tank with an ATL, baffled and all and mounting maybe easier and might not require as much fab work. Why not go bigger than 8 gallons? If you plan on doing enduro's a larger tank comes very handy.

If you run under some kind of WC rules a FIA or SCCA stamped approved cell is not required. However, some other cell (e.g. Jaz) can be pass thru tech if you run under the WC rules with the cell heavily reinforced. This area is grey. Please contact your local scca region for more information if you have any quesitons.

I ripped these off from our regional racing forum, but it's a another good example of mounting a fuel cell.

Dave, are there any issues cutting away the floor like that? You're cutting through an area that was a factory spot-weld seam, unless I cant see the picture very well.

It may look that way but I didn't. The frame will be stiff when the cage is completed.
