i'm about to buy a b18c swap for my cx and i'm hoping to turbo it down the road. i can get a jdm one or i can get a usdm one for the same price. which one should i get? is having a little lower compression (usdm) to hopefully boost worth the 10 less hp while its not turboed? i'm just trying to plan ahead. thanks.

8 horsepower, actually.
Get whichever is cheaper.
If they are the same price, get whichever has lower mileage.
If you are going to build the internals, it doesn't matter anyway - you're back to "get whichever is cheaper."

i was actually hoping not to get new internals when i turbo it so thats why i was wondering about the compression. i'm probably just digging my own grave trying to use stock internals but oh well. and i have looked into ls swaps but i'm not gonna turbo it for a while and i figure i could have fun with vtec in the mean time.

Which is a good point - I thought he was talking about the Integra SiR/GSR engine. You think he is talking about the Type-R engine.
So which is it?

Only difference in smog stuff is the evap purge solenoid so pull the one off of your sohc and put it on. There is even a threaded spot on the intake manfiold where it normally goes. Get which ever one has the lower mileage. Also if you get the JDM one, you might get lucky like me and get the optional LSD tranny.

No it does NOT.
The only JDM B series tranny with the higher FD is the 98-up spec TYPE-R, not the GS-R/SiR-G he's talking about.

BTW:
Unless money is a critical issue, I say get the GS-R over an LS any day.
You boost both, and the GS-R will destroy the LS - period.
That old myth about VTEC not working well with turbo is just dumb. the VTEC head flows so much better it's not even funny. Turbo needs more flow, etc. etc...
The only way I'd go LS is if all I could afford was the LS, the turbo set-up, and tuning.

Get the Jdm Its like what someone else said a little more horse, I belive a little more torque. And the FD is a little better. It might even have a bigger intake. If you really want to boost it just boost less is the same diffrence higher compression boost less, lower compression boost more. What is boosting actually doing raising the compression without changing the internals.

im gunna jump in here... F JDM's.. if you plan on boosting down the road, get a legit USDM, and add a couple more lbs of boost.. it'll make up for it easy.

This is a terrible comment.... THe Jdm motor does pulls bigger #'s b/c of higher compression. THe final drive is the same, the "intake" (guessing throttle body & intake manifold) are the same. I would personally go with the JDM motor, although it really makes no difference. Just boost it and hit the tracks and show us some time slips
