Default Little update on my Twin Turbo ls/vtec crx..

Well the week started off good.. I've been getting my car setup for the new cage. Its a Kirk Racing 6pt Road Racing Cage (thanks jim) its "bolt in & weld in" So I got most of it all ready and my buddy lionel welded it in for me.

Huge X brace in the back

Still got some more work with the cage, I need to finish up the door bars, Install some gussets and paint the entire thing. I'm thinking a dark grey, gunmetal will look pretty good. I dont want it to stand out to much. (I already got pulled over and a cop was like WTF is this ****) It really stiffened the hell out of the car, So I'm pleased with that. Plan is to put all the interior back in too. Plus I gotta fill my sunroof hole with something, thinking a piece of tinted lexan will be good.

Now onto the bad... > Last night we had a Draglab meet, a HMT buddy showed up so I wanted to race him first race I smoked them pretty good in first and completely missed 2nd twice, lol.. But I still beat him pretty good I come back around and noticed a little smoke, and was just about to line up and race my buddy in a TT 300zx. But I knew it was smoking a tad bit more than it should heh. Plus It had that good ol "Subaru sound" hahah, so now not only am I running subaru turbos my car sounds like one now! So its pretty obvious the engine is missing so I split.

Driving home I kept thinking to myself... "God damnit if I broke a sleeve I'm gonna be pissed" Did a quick compresson test 185/115/185/190. So I put a little oil in the cylinder and it jumped up, so I figured it was going to be ring lands. Ripped the engine apart (had to anyways since the thing had a blown head gasket since day 1) And yes.. broken ring lands on cylinder #2. I pulled all the other pistons to check and they were fine. So I started to think about it, these pistons came from my first ls/vtec turbo that I blew up and cracked the sleeve. Which sleeve? #2, and this was the piston from that sleeve that cracked. So maybe this piston was a little weak, because I've never broken ring lands on 8psi. Plus my ignition timing was a little on the "jeff frank timing madness" side.

Heres all the **** off the head..

Easy fix or not? now I'm thinking again.. **** I dont have any LS pistons laying around. How about using the B16a pistons in this thing! ya... same bore.. should be fine, Wait a sec...... How high is my compression going to be? (double checks on cspeed) 11.3 hmm, holy **** (*** puckers)
This should be interesting, a High compresson ls/vtec twin turbo setup!! yaya, I'm down for a challenge. Looks like I will be installing my 950cc injectors at the same time too.

So this gives me a bit of time to go over my turbo setup a bit closer, the thing was slapped together so fast it needed some attention, I used no gaskets between the turbo and manifold and was leaking, so I got some of those, and I couldnt stand how the manifold changed to a gold color, so I polished it up a bit, hopefully it wont change back to gold again. God.. I'm sick of the gold, fixing the valve cover too.

Closer look at the Downpipes

Ya, still no exhaust hooked up, just open DP. This also gives me time to put the o2 bungs in.

My very kind girlfriend rsxprincess (leia) is letting me drive her backup car while all this **** is going on. Because the "Orange Crush" 76civic project has been put on the back burner.

This is also going to be some damn good competition for me too.

The EK Built H22 Has begun

Endyn Roller Wave Pistons (FI) on Eagle H Beam Rods.

Sleeved with Darton Sleeves by Action Machine.

Should be quite the setup when done, I just cant have my girl faster than me!

Jeff

I want to hear how long that H22 bottom end lasts. I don't have good experience with Washington state machine shops. So what do you think about Action Machine, have you taken other motors there before. What did it cost for the machining? You balanced the rotating assembly too, right? Oh yeah, where are they at? Everett?

1. Ouch!

2. Compression won't effect the engine speed at which the car spools. It just makes the car feel better out of boost.

3. Running compression that high might not work at all, especially with little tiny turbos. Be careful!

Action machine is probably one of the best machine shops in Washington, they are the only place in the state that has deck plates for hondas for boring cylinders. I know the manager there so we got a real good deal. They did the boring/honing on my built ls/vtec, and O-ringed my block on my ZC.

Retail prices arnt to great, but most good machine shops cost alot. They are located in Shoreline. I don't think we are going to balance it, The rods and pistons are all new and Endyn's pistons are all the exact same weight, just like the rods. Going to use the stock flywheel and stock crank pulley. I know lots of High HP hondas around here that never balance their engines. I personally had mine balanced just because I'm ****. But it's not nearly as crucial as it is with a v8.

So how much is alot? What is the normal price to sleeve an H22? What about balancing the rotating assembly? Just curious, I just want to have something to compare. Do you have a phone number? Can't find them online.

Nice Vid, BTW. Damn CRX's

Do you have anything to contribute, or are you just going to post stupid things like that?

Where did you get your TT Manifold. I have scoured the internet looking for one. Also how much boost are you running. I plan on doing somthing like this to a b16 b or c.

of course compression will affect the speed at which the turbo spools. a higher compression piston will yield more powerful combustion which will result in more exhaust gas, which would spool the turbo faster. thats what turbo zxi's post was about.

and about the original topic at hand, that setup is nice. if you can tune the car well with that compression that thing will run like a raped ape.

285whp / 191tq @ 8-12psi

The video (right click save as)

http://www.draglab.com/HMTDyno5-25-04.wmv

What the setup looked like before I took it off,

and here it is for sale..

Custom Twin Turbo Setup for B-series. Recommended to fit in 5g/6g Civics, But will fit with modifcations in 4g civic/crx's. No this is not AC friendly. It will require some mods to get to fit. But all within reason.

Included:
-2 Ihi RHb5 Turbos (great shape) ~8psi
-Custom Stainless Steal Equal length manifold
-2 2.5 Downpipes (aluminized steel) merge into 3in w/ 02 bung
- Oil Return flanges/hoses & Oil feed to the turbos.
- Flange Gaskets
- All new Fasteners

This turbokit worked great, and will produce good power, it was more of a test to see how well it would work. Spool time is very fast on a B18. Price is $900 obo *more than likly this will go on ebay*

- Pic3

Enjoy, it was a fun little setup while I had it

maybe you should try to do something with a supercharger,

give us a supercharger setup that puts out IMPRESSIVE power,

i know you're all about that drag racin,
but all around drivin fun is good too!
