Default Tranny Leaking

Hey guys, as you may know, I tore down my transmission and replaced my input shaft bearing a couple weeks ago. Yesterday I noticed some oil spots where I park. Jacked up the car to find that there is quite a bit of tranny fuild around the seal of my transmission. Where the housings go together. Didn't have time to mess with it last night as I had other things on the car do to, so get under it today and look agian.

Wiped off all of the tranny fluid. It seems to be coming from where the axle goes into the tranny on the passenger side. I KNOW the axle is in good, why is it leaking? Anyone had this problem before? Anything I can do about it?

replace the seal that goes in where your half shaft goes.

no you don't have to pull the transny of to change the axle seal, all you have to do is remove the axel and use a seal puller or a big screw driver to remove the seal, then use a seal installer or a big socket that fit around the seal and tap it in slowly. besure that it straight then you good to go... may be 1hr of your time.

Few possibilities:

1. Leaking axle seal

Pull said axle out, replace the axle seal with Honda axle seal

2. Leaking shifter shaft seal

Pull the rubber dust boot back where the shifter enters the tranny. Replace the seal that goes into the tranny where the linkage goes into the tranny.

3. Case is leaking

Pull the tranny out. Split the case. Scrape all old Hondabond off the case. Put a bead of Hondabond on one side of the case and bolt the cases back together and let it dry.

That's about it really.

I hope it's just an axle seal.

Sounds like you might have bad case bearings and/or missing teeth from your final drive.

Bottom line?

Look for another tranny, or break yours apart and if all you need is bearings, then replace the bearings.

I would say 99% chance axle seal. May not be seated properly upon re-installing the tranny. They aren't to expensive and not very difficult or time consuming to change. I'd start their and it's cheap enough that if it is something more major it's not that big of a deal.

P.S. Frylock and the whole AT crew are the shixors!

My tranny is leaking on the passenger side after installing a brand new axle and I got two important questions.

Is it possible that when installing your axle and for some reason its not seated properly and can also cause it to leak. Is this true?

Should there be any gap between the axle and the tranny where it meets?

I have about a 5mm gap.

Thanks!

There should be a very minimal space between tranny and axle. Try replacing the seal.
Make sure when you re-install the axel to "pop" it into place. Should be able to tell/hear when it snaps into place in the diff.

Before the new axle went in, I was not having any tranny leaked until new axle went in. So its hard for me to beleive my axle seal is shot.

Also the ring that goes around the end that goes inside the tranny, it was loose compare to my old axle, so I dont know if this has to do anything with my leaking problem.

Although the new axle is a rebuild axle from autozone, now after doing some research I heard that them rebuild axles are piece of crap or its a big hit and miss.

Today I pry out the axle and reinstall it to make sure it was seated properly and it looks like the axle was almost to short. While I was pounding the axle in to make sure it was seated fully, the axle slide through the rotor out the other side. Is this normal?

I didnt think it was suppose to come out this easily.
