Tranny Code Issue. Is it a GSR or LS, YOU TELL ME.
Welp, I picked up a tranny and supposedly its a GSR. I trust him and took his word. He was selling it for his friend and its missing the stickers and vins. Yeah, I know
...anyways I saw the motor it came off of. Same deal, missing this and that
. The only thing to identify the tranny is the engraved or however you call it "ysk 2". I myself have done research on it and came up with "ysk 1 is cable and ysk 2 is hydro" I know GSRs have the lable S80 and Y80 on them already. Only real way to check it out is to open it or slap it on and see whats up.
Here are pics:

Cliff:
Has "ysk 2" on casing, but IS IT A GSR TRANNY?
TIA
It was a deal either way b/c i got shift linkage and inter. shaft too. $500 bucks

where would that be?
As for the breather hole, i got pics of it. i don't know the size of a ls, but i compared it to a penny!

my gsr tranny has LAD or L4D(USDM) stamp in front of the tranny (or something in that nature), sorry i cant confirm it cause its dark outside and i dont have a flashlight to go look under the hook right now.
however, if you do decide to put the tranny in, my RPM sits at 4k when im going apr. 80 mph... the LS tranny is at a lower RPM(not quite sure exactly what RPM but you get the idea)
this is one way that you can tell if its a GSR or LS tranny
EDIT: its at 4k in 5th gear

i hsve the same issue i bought a used trans too and i think ive gotten gipped. so if it sits at 4k when going 80 its a gsr? what if its a b16 trans? it would be at a higher rev than 4k when going 80 right?

Correct. Not sure the exact rpm, but it will be higher.

How do you know for sure?

Bottom line:
Break the case apart, count teeth on the ring gear and counter/pinion shaft, do the math.
If it's a 4.400 final drive, you got a GS-R tranny.
If it's a 4.26 final drive, you got an LS tranny.
So YOU tell US.

My Type R tranny was exactly the same way after I used Purple Power cleaner, a scrub brush, and a pressure washer.the degreaser took off the "J4D LSD" stamp, and the pressure washer ripped the I.D sticker off. the VIN plate was still on it of course, but not all trannies have the VIN plate to begin with, such as my new ITR tranny.
Calling someone a thief or a receipient of stolen property based on a few pics is a bit much IMO.

I'm the last person to assume things, but buying/selling stolen stuff is a sensitive subject for me.

If you don't like H-T, then by all means leave.
I was honestly trying to help you out, so if you cannot take any good advice then i don't know what to tell you.
Unfortunately there is NO way to tell any hydro Integra trannies apart from exterior cues in terms of whether it's a GS-R or LS tranny. There are S80 Type R, LS, and GS-R trannies.
Again you'll need to at least split the case and count the teeth on the ring gear and counter shaft/pinion shaft.
I'll be back with the numbers for the Gs-R ring and pinion shaft set...

GS-R ring gear will have 66 teeth.
GS-R pinion shaft will have 15 teeth.
66/15 = 4.400 final drive.
This is from counting teeth from a USDM GS-R/Type R final drive I have sitting here in front of me.

You give me too much credit.

You'd be amazed at how much you can learn just by taking a few hours to do nothing but searches on various topics here on H-T.
I learned about final drives back when I got a 4.929 ATS final drive for my Type R tranny a few years ago.

about the stolen tranny idea, if it was rebuilt by a shop they usually boil all the parts to get them clean which would tak off any markings
