This weekend Norwood and I were tuning a mustang for Steve and Denis Topletz when Bob was injured by the blower on their car. We were diagnosing a dead # 5 cylinder when he reached to touch the header to check for heat. The blower sucked his hand to the opening and removed the tips of three of his fingers. Bob was calm and pissed off. He said, "Damn, I didn't realize that thing had so much suction that far away at idle. I bet there is more than one guy at Pro Charger/Vortech missing a few fingers."
Duffy said he's had the same thing happen to him, difference was the back of his hand was sucked to the blower and was stopped by the rubber stubber on the wheel, didn't hurt him.
He felt bad about stopping the races and was quick to inform all of us to, "Get that thing ready for the next round." He was transported to the hospital were he quickly informed the nurses that he was in a hurry and had somewhere he needed to be. " He returned to the track a few hours later where we met for dinner and returned to Dallas.
We worked in the shop today, trying to progress on finishing Rado's car and following the Nopi races. At the end all is well at the Norwood Camp.
A few true quotes overheard from Bob at the Hospital...
"Finally found a way to get dirt out from under my finger nails."
"Good way to met cute nurses?
"There's nothing like your first ambulance ride!"
"Not the best way to lose weight."
"What do you mean you won't sow it back on unless it's past the knuckle?"
"Oh, the other guy had a knife."
"Flipping off Chris Harrington will never be the same!"

Wow,the blower inlet is pretty far from #5 cylinder, which is the 3rd one back on the drivers side. Its amazing that blower had that much suction but those blowers are really overdriven for that class. They should mandate a rule to have at least a mesh screen over the intake if this happened before. It reminds me when people lose a hand or fingers cleaning unclogging the chute of snowblowers...good to hear he's OK and in good spirits
