Default new seat reccomendations?

thought I'd put this in here, I'm looking into a new seat for just the drivers side for my 89 CRX. It's my daily driver but also my weekend racer and I want to get a seat with some more support. What are some you using? I've heard good stuff about the Corbeau and Momo seats but are there any other brands that people have used and like? Like I said, this car is driven every day so the seat has to be reclinable and price is a factor. I don't want to break the bank on this. My stock seat is torn and the padding just isn't what it was 227,000 miles ago.

And for some competition related info, I'll be racing my new ZC on Sunday, hopefully, if all goes right. D-Mod here I come. DM here in Greensboro is all CRXs!!

What type of racing are you doing? If it's high speed stuff, you should really consider a true bucket.

The Sparco Roadster is comfortable for daily use, but is non-reclinable. It's about $500. See it here: http://www.subesports.com/products/?...rco&prodID=223

The reclinable seats tend to be expensive, you're probably better off finding a CRX seat that's in good condition, or re-upholstering the one you've got. Most aftermarket reclinables aren't going to be any better, the CRX seats are pretty good as-is.

My Corbeau Targa RS should be here Monday. I daily drive my car as well. I paid $400 shipped for the seat and rail. It is reclineable and has most side support that the Recaro (SRD i think), plus it is cheaper than the Recaro.

Did you look at the Carrera before you decided on the Targa? I LOVE the way the Carrera looks in Yellow/Black. It'd look even sweeter if I could get some of the seating cushions in black. Anyway, if you've got any thoughts on the Carrera, I'd like to hear them. And I'd like to hear about your experiences with the Targa.

Yeah i looked at the Carrera as well, and the A4. A4 didn't have any lateral leg support. And the Carrera is $80 more than the Targa RS. Also the Targa RS looks like it has more padding and be a more comfortable daily driver seat, where the Carrera looks more like a race only seat.

Did you actually sit in any of them? Just curious and not trying to be a dick, but how could you actually decide on a seat by a picture?

The targa certainly does look like it's got a little more lumbar support, and I think it's a little wider (by like a half inch or an inch) in the butt area. I like the carrera because it looks totally sweet, especially in yellow. It looks like it'd have really good support, too, without being quite as hard to get out of as a real shell. All the while being signifcantly cheaper than Recaros.

Where'd you get yours from?

http://sportscar-parts.com/

It took over a month to get it though, only because the company that makes the rails for the seats was WAY behind, and they had to make the rails for my car, since they had none in stock. One company makes all of the rails for Corbeau seats. They have great customer service, they kept me inform of the progress and whenever i called, they always had an answer for me.

FWIW... I sat in a Sparco Torino at Speedware, and it didn't seem a lot more supportive than my stock GS-R seat (at least, not $599 more supportive). The Recaro SRD I sat in seemed much more snug. However, I am a pretty small guy.

I wouldn't want to buy a seat without sitting in it first.

Yeah, I've checked out the Torino and the SRD. The SRD stomps all over it. The Sparco seats just seem kinda flimsy. Same with OMP.

There's a place in bellevue (www.superiorautotrim.com) that has Corbeau seats, but I haven't had a chance to go over there and sit in one yet.

Corbeau Carrera MSRP = $399
SpeedWare price on SRD = $650+

Guess which I'd rather pay for if they're comparable quality.

Have you sat in the Carrera? It's not all that wide of a seat, maybe a tad narrower than "average."

Recaros are better quality, but you do pay for it. It just depends on how willing you are to spend the extra money.

Also, Carrera will only sell the Carrera in pairs. That is true of most of their reclining seats, they don't like to make just one. Sometimes you get lucky and they'll have a single laying around but usually not.

I wouldn't want an unmatched pair of seats in my car anyway, though. And when you say "They don't like making only 1", does that mean they're made to order? I'd love to get the Carrera in yellow as shown on the website, but with the seating cushions in black instead of yellow. And a huge reason to buy Corbeau's over Recaros is actually because I'd want a pair of them. A price difference of $250+ on one seat is a price difference of $500+ on two.

But anyway, no, I haven't sat in the Carrera yet. Any seat purchase would be dependant on a test-sit impression first.

I haven't tried OMP's reclining seats, but I can tell you that their race seats are

I am currently debating over:

Mugen S1
OMP RAC
Sparco Corsa
Recaro Pole Position

I'll probably settle on the Sparco b/c of the price difference.

Absolutely not true. They will happily sell you a single, but they would rather sell you pairs because the shipping is the same whether there is 1 or 2 seats in each big white Corbeau box. Not sure who you are talking to out there, but my sales rep happily sells one reclining seat at a time.

I only bought 1 reclining seat, they didn't say 1 word about it. On their site they do encourage ordering both at the same time, to guarantee the color will match and they you get a driver and passenger seat.

Fangtl,

I am sponsored by Driver's Edge Autosport the Canadian importer/distributor of OMP. I will get you a price on the RAC tomorrow if you would like. What color are you after?

My Corbeau Targa RS should be here Monday.
So did you get your seat yet?

Also, check out http://www.ardperformance.com, click on accessories, and seating. They have some Tenzo seats which look pretty nice for the price.

Do you say that because you've sat in one, and it's crap? Or do you say that because you think everything Tenzo is crap (maybe it is, I dunno).

Personally, I don't like the Sparco Torino. It doesn't have agressive enough bolsters.

Hmm, I usually talk with David. This came up with a couple of my customers who wanted either the A4 or the Carrera. Each time I put the order in he'd call and say that they needed to do 2 seats. Maybe you do more volume than me and they are more lenient?

yeah i did, sorry i never got back to this post. I absolutley LOVE the seat. It holds me in VERY nicely so far, i haven't done an autox yet w/ it, but i have done Deals Gap (318turns 11miles) and it made a world of a difference. And it is very comfortable, this past weekend i drove to Birmingham, AL (~5hrs from me) after about 2.5-3hrs i started to get some lower back pain, but i did also w/ my stock seat.
