First do a compression and leak down test.
If everything is ok, start with a 50 or 55 shot.
Get one step colder plugs and make sure your on at least 91 octane fuel.

I personally choose to retard timing a degree or two for a 50 shot, but alot of people leave the timing alone and have no problems.

There are a couple of very fast nitrous fed single cams on this board.

You should do a search. There is lots of good nitrous related info on here.

I've been running a 75 shot (zex) on a b16 for about 8 months and haven't had a single problem yet.

Id also recommend getting a Fuel pressure regulator. you want to make sure you have plenty of fuel in there. and as stated above when your spraying make sure ur running at least 91 oct. start low on the shots to be sure your motor can handle it. if all goes good just go to the next level

as long as you have a good clutch.. defentialy spray 75, retard timing 4deg, Premium gas, you'll be good to go.. get the most bang for your buck... ive sprayed on both of my moters many times with that set up with no problem and i was very happy with the results..

i also prefer zex over nx, for the dry kit yo (diffrent opinion on wet kit)

I ran a 75 shot on my D16 for a very long time, no problems. Start out with a 55 and work your way up.

sorry to highjack your thread but Im building up a mild allmotor d16z6 with pm6 pistons, .5mm (020) milled head (P&P) and bolt ons and would like to eventualy spray some nos but Im unsure as how much will it take as Im bumping the compression (dont know for sure but Im guessing 10.8:1 cr).

I will be using 95 octane Bkr7e-11 plugs and I guess Ill retard timing a few degrees for the nitrous (maybe 14* or less) dont know about the valve gap.

thanks

^^ This is a man I would listen to.

I have a turbo setup on my car at 8 psi daily. This is right around a 80hp+ increase in power over stock, and that's like running that N20 all the time. I've been doing that for close to a year with no problems.

I think everyone is repeating everyone else... just read this thread carefully, read the directions of the installations carefully, make sure everything is working, double check everything and double check every connections for leakage...

Start with the smallest shot size and go up... Have fun and dont try to race a ferrari like in Fast-n-Furious because it will whoop you... Have fun and be safe.

the zex kit is good for beginners with nitrous. like everyone said if you just retard the timing a little bit with your distributor and run some colder plugs and good gas you will be fine. there was a guy in town here that was trying to blow his d16y7 with a 75 shot of zex and he went thru 10 bottles before he broke a ring with no precautionary methods such as the timing or plugs. he was beating the **** out of it too. so dont worry too much.

my d16y7 handled 5 consecutive bottles of 100 shot used in all the wrong ways i.e. spraying in 1st from 500rpms and squeezing for more than 15 seconds.. and that was after over 10 bottles of 75 and 10 bottles of 50 the whole time me trying to blow it up and after all that it finally gave out and all it did was crack a piston which i took out and the motor runs great again. SO yea dont worry to much. gotta love D series power y00000

that motor didnt owe me a damn thing i tried my hardest to blow it up and it loved the spray I dont get it. DONT FORGET a purge, those are the most priceless looks when you roll on someone and just blow a huge cloud in the air and see the "OH ****" look appear on their face.

Hey I'd start w/ the 55 shot and work up like everyone's saying. Make sure you check your plugs often. Get the fuel pressure reg. it helps. Do the compression and leak down. I'm moving to the 75 shot this weekend and I love my zex. Good luck.

for a 75 shot you should defenetly retard your timing at least 2 degrees, zex recomands 4 but then it idles kinda funny, and with out a question get zex hyperformance plugs, those things are worth a fortune when you are spraying, they are just awesome. also one more suggestion, get ready to replace your clutch soon.

I'd stay away from 75-shot (ZEX dry setup) on a stock D-series. It's decent on the street but 1/4 mile is too long imo and things will really get heated up. In some older theards I posted aftermath pics of my D16Y7 on 75-shot of N2O.
