tranny bolt?
the bolt that you take off to drain the tranny fluid.. well, it was completely loose, so i tightened up today and i tightened it pretty good... but then i couldn't put my car in 1st or 2nd.. so i loosened the bolt a bit and it was fine.. im just wondering exactly how this bolt works and what's the torque spec of it? thanks
Uh, that drain plug should have absolutely no effect on shift feel/quality. do you have the factory on in there? It's just a plug: counterclockwise to open, clockwise to tighten. Nothing special. Always use a new aluminum crush washer and tighten til snug (doesn't need to be excessively tight, but shouldn't be turnable by hand).
We are talking about the one that you need a 3/8" square drive to loosen, right?

i have a JDM ITR tranny, but it's a 12mm bolt and liquid comes out if i take it off, it's where we drained the tranny fluid when we flushed it last time... but this is the 2nd time ive experienced this... if i overtighten it, it doesn't allow me to go into 1st or 2nd gear so i hafta loosen it a bit...
Sounds like he is hitting the detent, doesn't it? The drain plug is at the very bottom (faces right side of vehicle, driver's perspective, of course) of the tranny and is removed by inserting the square drive of a 3/8" ratchet into the bolt. The 12mm drive bolt we suspect you of removing is probably the shift detent ball. This is a hollow shaft bolt with a spring inside, which pushes a ball bearing against the shift selector inside the tranny, keeping it in the gear you select. Carefully try pulling that bolt out (careful not to lose the little ball bearing) and see if the springs damaged or you have some foreign material in there. If that's not the bolt you're hitting, try posting a pic for us!

yeah, your def ****** with the wrong bolt
don't mess with that one, it won't drain your transmission well anyway
get a new crush washer for the one you messed with

it's definitely that bolt, i remember the ball and spring when we last did the tranny fluid change and had no clue what that thing was... so what's the torque spec supposed to be at??
