tried everything... i have no vtec
long story. short vtec engages but there is no power gain i have swapped out speed sensor, distributor, ecu, vtec solenoid, checked motor oil pressure, checked head oil pressure when vtec engages, checked timing, ran solenoid to a switch and it is all ok. when i lean into it in second you car hear a very light noise around 5000 rpm's but there is no power gain. i had an h23 vtec that blew up and that thing kicked super hard and now i put in an h22a4 block with type s pistons with the same h22a head and i got nothing. not even the slightest bit of power. vtec is working but there is just absolutely no power at all it runs like an non vtec with good compression. this thing absoultely dies at around 6800 rpm's.
wait i guess it is a long story.....sorry

get yourself a plain jane p72 or a stock p13
it sounds like u have too much going on to diagnose it easily
a friend of mine had bad cam seals, that was causing low oil pressure, and limp mode, something as easy as that can result in no vtec
id try a stock p13 first

yea the oil pressure is good and i also checked the oil level.....like i said i have good oil pressure in the head and in the block... i checked oil pressure when vtec engages and it shoots up but still nothing.... im going to swap this head out for a stock a4 head.... i have an a1 head on an a4 block running a a4 head gasket and im going to throw on the original stock head and ill see what happens.

neither of those ecus engage VTEC at the right time so it makes sense your VTEC seems to bog...on a p72 that's like 4400 rpm and the fuel and timing will be all wrong...
get a p13....

tell when you figure out this problem...
im having the exact same one.
vtec kicks in, the car hesitates and it pulls a tiny bit harder... nothing like a normal h22.
does your vtec sound super loud when it kicks in?

Might be out on a limb here but what condition is your cat in? If it is clogged then it could be causing all sorts of back pressure stalling the top end. What RPM does VTEC engage? Stock Cams? 11:1 compression huh? Has it been tuned? What octane gas? If that P72 is sensing any knocking then it will pull timing. More details please...
did you assemble the motor? Cause I have seen this problem before. I had all proper pressure when I tested it and tried everything to fix the prob. what it ended up being was someone forgot to put in the oil control orfice in the head. So the head/block had proper pressure, but the vtec solenoid was not getting any pressure. It would be an easy piece to over look due to the fact that it is pretty small.

are you using a p72?
because that sounds like the symptoms of a p72 on an h22a, a real shitty dip in power before the big lobe is used for vTaK y0

Yep, i agree, get ahold of a p13
