go with super charger, less heat , no lag, instant boost, just watch your belt,

Turbo, much more power, more effecient, adjustability, and they can give you whiplash. And yes, exospeed cams are great, Wil is a cool **** and will help you out with what you'll need.

Listen to me very carfully!
T-U-R-B-O...... or go home......

But seriousely if you know anything about FI applications and how it all works you'll clearly see the advatanges and disadvatanges of both.

A long time ago all i wanted to find a Ef or EG and superchage that ****, but I learned more and more about the greddy kit then learn who and how both worked.

Turbo is much more effiecent.... lag is very minimal and can be controled to a certain degree. The heat that each system would give off is basically the same amount. The turbo might run a little higher engine bay temps but who cares cause you've got a nice FMIC!

Wil at exospeed is good guy, I've instant message him a few times.

ok as much as we advocate cams for All Motor setups. On turbo setups, we stick with using Stock cams. OUr cams were designed and tested for All Motor use.
The reason for not really building/testing turbo cams, is that many of the setups that people do are in the range that cams jus complicates the setup even more. Turbo cams do get you a decent gain of 20-30HP at times, but a little more boost can do the same. Theres no real need for Turbo cams in many cases.
Theres B18 Turbo setups pumping out an easy 600HP to the wheels on stock cams.
So stick with stock cams on that TURBO D16A6. Concentrate on Fuel management and tuning. Thats what will make your motor faster and efficient. Not more parts to complicate things.

Superchargers build boost with the RPM

Simply put..

Turbo > supercharger.

In general turbo's will make more power than a supercharger and has less parasitic loss. A supercharger has more parasitic loss because the pulley to run the S/C is run via a belt that is connected to the crankshaft. The power to simply turn the belt is hurting the HP of the engine.

IMO, get a turbo..

I dont see how a supercharger builds boost with rpm, i am 10 psi with my jackson and as soon as the pedal hits the floor the boost gauge shoots to 10. Please help adam make his car faster than me, so his budget CRX can whiz by my $15k + tegra. Anyone with rex builds, post pics and mods, timslips, dyno sheets, so we can build a reliable fast CRX.

To clarify, a centrifugal (Vortech) supercharger would build boost with RPM were it not for the small gearbox between the pulley and the blower. It is not the same scenario with an Eaton type (JRSC). Turbos, btw, would build boost with RPM were it not for the apparatus that lets exhaust gasses bypass the turbine!

A big factor in this "decision" is what you plan to do with the car, and what your future goals are for the engine.

doesn't it matter what he wants to do with the car? I personally would go for the turbo if I was planning on mostly street driving//drag racing but for autox I might want to go with a supercharger. However I'm not an expert on forced induction and road//drag racing and would rather stay NA.

he is having his motor rebuilt/ reringed. What would be the most cost efficient route for a fast reliable car? I was thinking if he can find a used supercharger for like 1k or less he would have a decent setup for a beginer. Or would it be wiser to get some high comp pistons and build an NA motor with cams and such. Or go turbo in the long run and as of now just build the motor to handle the boost. Anyone with opinions for a begginer CRX?

Just to let you know, the Turbocharger vs. Supercharger argument has been covered on every forum in history. I'll give you my personal opinions though since I have looked lots into D-series boosted set ups...

I myself would go with a turbo. It's cheaper if you build the set up yourself (www.homemadeturbo.com RULES!) and in the end, a turbo can push more boost realistically. Although you're only using a mild amount of boost.

I have seen some awesome track set ups of turbocharged b18a's and they have been VERY impressive. But with something as small and minor as a d16a6 I would just build a home made turbo set up for less than a grand, push around 7-10 psi on stock internals and go tear some B-series owners new ********.

We're still unsure what he plans to do with this car when he's done. SCCA? Drag? Just a fast street car?

Also, does he plan on dumping more money into the engine down the road?

If you plan on building the motor further, turbo would be the best choice IMO. Capable of more boost.
