14" rims clear 11.1" "ghetto-fab" Hype-R/Prelude VTEC brakes?
I have been thinking about doing the Prelude VTEC/type R front brake conversion, as documented by Emerika (I beleive). It seems like the best bang for the buck in terms of braking ability, quality, ease of install and maitenence (i.e. getting new rotors and such).
My stock 13" steelies won't clear the brakes. A guy in my area has some Del Sol 14" 5 spokes I can pick up for cheap, and was wondering if they would clear the new front brake setup.

that was me....no OEM 14's will fit, no matter what. Not even close
You can get some custom Volk CE28N's....14x7.5 with 28 offset like Chad!

that is badass.. i love seeing brakes that take up the whole inside of the wheel.. even tho those are 14's its still nice.. w/ a set of 15s it would still be nice

Those 14's posted loook siiiiiiiick with those brakes, they look freakin' huuuuge!!
But yea, I guess the del sol rims won't clear. Damn. Where can I get some cheap-o, but decent looking 15's... I was looking at GSR 5spokes, but I need something even cheaper. Does anyone make knock-off rota's (lol, which are knock-off's of other rims..)
Oh yea, and for this brake upgrade, I need to get the Civic EX hubs/spindles for my DX. Can you get a refurb hub/spindle from autozone, and turn in a junkyard part as a core? I know you can do it with calipers, but what about the spindles. I don't know how comfortable I am putting some high-mileage, unknown condition spindles on my car.

sorry to resurect this but i need some help with my hybrid brake setup... I have some 95 lude non vtec caliper/brakets and i want to get em on my gsr spindles for my EK..... any clues or anyone done this?

If you have all the parts, just start screwing around and see what it'll take to make it fit.
It's hard to answer questions like that unless somebody has already done it and can tell you....and if you don't have the parts in front of you to see

well the prob I am having is what is the diff between a 95 lude non vtec caliper and an 97+ vtec lude caliper ? could really deter things...
HAS ANYONE DONE THIS WITH A NON_VTEC CALIPER?

i think the non vtec prelude caliper is the same size as the GSR rotor. not sure, and if that is the case why don't you just use GSR rotors.
i think the better question would why would you do it. since it would require you to re drill the lug pattern, it would be easier if just used Gsr rotors

well dude this caliper is alot bigger than the GSR caliper so there has to be some benefit... I am just tryin to learn what I can to avoid wasting money on something if i can... yah know

well DUDE why don't you say so in the first place, knowing information like this is extremly important.
here is a suggestion why don't you go into the prelude forum and ask around, or ask some one who sells rotor's what size the prelude non vtec rotor are, or better yet go to a parts store and ask them to check part numbers on
PRELUDE VTEC 95
NON VTEC PRELUdE 95
95 GSR
then you can see the difference.
that is what i did when i did my conversion, and i found that the ITR, prelude vtec, 94 accord EX calipers are all the same, and the caliper size directly relates to the rotors. so if you want you could run it on the rotor or on the caliper or on both to be 100% sure.

you might have answered the question cause my buddy was gonna use these on his accord when we did his prelude swap (he has a 97 accord EX and we didn;lt cause they "seemed" the same in size and part number so I maybe be ok for the swap with these.
SO when I grind down the bracket i have to remove about 3mm evenly off the entire mating surface ? is there noway to eliminate the space idea. Not my idea of fun lol

Can anyone write up a DIY or list the parts that are needed to upgrade civic brakes to these listed on this thread?? and how good is it to redrill calipers to 4x100 saftey wise.. do tracks approve of it? i really need to upgrade the brakes on my weekend track car those dx brakes suck w/ 300whp

Hybrid brake setup on 94 Si 4x100 ITR 11:07 PM 10/25/2003 Reply Edit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit- for those wondering, I do NOT have ABS
Well, I did this awhile ago, but never had pics taken cause I don't have a digi cam right now.
Here's the setup
GSR spindle/fork with H&R extended lugs
1/8th inch prestige wheel spacers
ITR rotors redrilled to 4x100
Prelude VTEC calipers- same as ITR/Accord, etc
H&R 1/4 inch wheel spacers
EG6 15/16th master cylinder.
Most parts were free, so don't ask for total cost. I'll tell you it was very cheap though...cheaper than new pads and rotors for my stock setup.
The Prelude calipers bolt right up to the GSR spindle....but the offset of the caliper is different, causing the rotor and caliper to hit each other. This is where I used the 1/8th spacer....between hub and rotor.
The ITR rotors were actually off my friends car (www.c-speedracing.com project Integra). These are what....like 11 inches or so...VERY large compared to my stockies ( don;t have ABS).
Then, to clear the caliper, I used the H&R wheel spacers. This also gave me a much wider track up front and just the handling felt a lot better. I used a 15/16ths MC for better pressure, and that was that. Same stopping power as a 5 lug setup, without the cost. WELL worth it IMO....a LOT better than stock. I throw people into the windshield when I stomp on the brakes. I can late brake safely now too ( track only of course).
Here's some pics....(bored aftwr work )

me personally i don't like the idea AT ALL, along with brake companies like brembo. i remeber in an email a rep from brembo stated that you would to to drill out other holes to make it right and safe in his eyes, if you look for the FYI/DYI for 4x114.3 97JDM ITR brake thread, the email is quoted in there. but there are people like emerika and others who have ran on them and had no problems, or at least have never posted a problem, and emerika races too, so im guessing they held up its just something i wouldn't do. but hey that just me

Hey guys, I've been looking around for my parts for this swap, and I was wondering if anybody knows a good place to get the rotors?
Cheapest I've found any of the 11" Honda rotors was $110 each.
