DIY / How-To: Sound Deaden your Door *pics*
Great writeup. This will help you gain that "thud" sound some people crave when they close the door as well.
EDIT: Any reason why you use small squares?

Yeah I'm temped as well. I'm tired of all the road noise and all of that stuff.

Boost the car. Bump the boost up another 2-3 psi and don't worry about weight so much.

I have a question... in my car door, a Civic 2000 EX, the front speakers are not held in by metal, its on the eh... vinal? or rubber door part, is there a way to make this stop vibrating?
got some questions if you don't mind...
1. how much does that blue skin stuff cost? and how much is needed to cover say... trunk, doors, quarter panels, floor board, etc. basically a whole car, and how much weight approximately do you think that would add?
2. do you notice a difference before and after of road noise?

What a great thread. Whats the price on this stuff? Also, is there a benefit of the spray on stuff, too? I hate all the rattles in my doors and stuff, too. would this help? My whole car rattles just from riding around on the stiff suspension. if I had a system, it'd probably drive me nuts.

nice writeup did this to my car and it got rid of the "tin can" sound of the doors.
another thing to note is that to save weight/materials you don't necessarily have to cover every square inch. you can achieve almost the same effect by cutting smaller strips, about 2"*6" and spacing them 2-4" apart. This works especially well on the outside door skin.

I found 100sq feet of fat pak material for $99.99. Do you think I could do both doors, both rear fenderwells, and trunk with that much?
Since my speakers are mounted on the door panel, what you took off... is there a deadener that would work? would spray work well? the rattle is definitly the door panel, and not the metal... Im a coupe ex 2000

the speakers are mounted to the panel which is mounted to the door. unless something in the panel is broken or there's change in the panel then I'd say that it's probably the door rattling. the only other thing is the panel rattling against the door, in which case if you dynamat the door the rattle will go away then also.

yes listen to him...small pieces work the best. i used big pieces on my old car and boy was it a bitch to get all the bubbles out. and ya once its on there, its on there, so take your time. good write up btw
i also bought fat mat, i went half and half with a friend 50 bucks for each of us. and it came in two rolls, how sweet
