auto to manual swap on eg
Ive read up on this before and from what ive read it seemed quite easy. I was told in the EF forum that the eg is the worst to convert from auto to manual. They tried to tell me the mounts dotn sit right and the EK is easier to do this to. WTF is this guy right? Id like to do a LS with manual swap in the future and was hoping the manual swap was easy and everything would line up good
auto to manual swap in an EG....I don't think it can get easier.
Took me and my friend about 4 hours total to do it this past weekend.
First we dropped the auto tranny, torque converter and the flex plate and the auto shift consoler. Then, remove the pedal assembly.
There is a plug on the firewall for the clutch master cylinder which needs to be removed, and then the master cylinder bolts in like stock. We had a wrecked EG we took parts off, so we used the stock hardlines for the clutch also.
We put the tranny on with 2 bolts, and then raised up the tranny with the manual mount on the frame rail- drilled the old auto mount off obviously. We leveled the engine with the car, and then tack-welded the manual mount on the frame rail and lowerred the tranny back down.
Welded in the manual mount, ground down the welds, painted, and it looked stock.
You need to use a manual frame mount because it sits about an inch forward on the manuals and is slightly different. You also need the manual tranny mount and the manual front torque mount. You can use the same rear mount.
After welding the mount on, bolted on the flywheel/clutch/tranny and the mount, everything lined up perfectly. Then we took the stock D series shift linkage, bolted and pinned to the tranny, and lifted through the hole from the old auto console.....centered up the shift, and drilled 2 pilot holes for the stabilizer bar, then drilled the correct size, and bolted it up. Running a stock manual p28 ecu and all.
Turned out perfect for our first swap. This was for c-speedracing.com's new race EG...picked up an auto hatch....the swap was really simple. Dropped the tranny about 4 times since the weekend, and everything lines up just as nicely as it does in any other factory manual car.
The thing to remember is that every shell is the same, wheteher auto or manual, it's just a matter of getting the correct manual parts to convert it, and they will bolt right up...such as the pedal assembly, master cylinder, clutch line, linkage, tranny, mount, etc.
Sorry, I kinda rambled....oh yeah, search

this is the easiest swap to do. The Ek chassis needs some cutting where the shifter sits and on the eg there is no cutting needed. Maybe they said that the hard part is swapping mounts coz the ek mounts you can reuse and just but a bracket. If you need help hit me up i also have most of the parts for this job
