Autopower rollbar install - finally done!
It's done! It took a bit too long, but we learned our lesson about tightening things down before everything is connected....
I got home from my friend Wai's house with the bar.... I had removed everything from behind the front seats the previous night while we installed my roommate's Kirk bar in his Hatch.....

We had to move a few wires... no big deal.

Nothing to contend with on the passenger wheel well.... notice the scratches. When test fitting the bar before drilling holes, we noticed that the rear bars barely fit... thus the scratches. We drew some guides for drilling/placement of the bar, seen in the next few pics.

Well, there were marks for each hole.... Guess I forgot to snap a pic.

Here's one. We punched some small divots in the sheet metal to assist with drilling. You gotta love a 3000rpm, $14 drill.

We also cut some small holes in the carpet to slide the front plates through.. they didn't turn out great, but not as bad as I first thought.

Test fitting everything before we start bolting everything down.

Me and Bartek were not very happy at this point, we bolted down the rear bars all the way and were unable to fit the main hoop onto them. We ended up loosening things up a bit and everything went smoothly.

Here's my we-todd custom fabrication to make the rear speakers fit.

I dremeled some of the speaker housing off... and we used the two front mounting screws. We drilled the rear mounting screw out, put a zip tie through the hole, and tied the speaker bracket in tight. This makes the speaker's angle more across the car than their previous angle, but they still work, no rattles, no problems. Some slight dremeling of the panel was also necessary.
Everything fits....

Here's bartek working hard... I was in the wheel well.

Just ignore my butt.
You'll notice the CRX... which was piled in ITR parts, jackets, food, beer, nuts and bolts, etc. That's about all it is good for with a possibly bad alternator.
Also notice my new dent.
Someone backed out of my mom's neighbor's driveway while I was over there visiting. Looks pretty nasty, but their insurance is paying.

Bars are in, and bolted down! All that was left is to tighten everything down. Notice the speaker is in there, and the panels fit!

Bart torques while I hold a wratchet down below.

This about sums up what we both think of putting panels back on with the rollbar. Next time... No rear interior at all.

All done!

Note: This is just temporary padding until I get my SFI stuff.

Big huge thanks to Bartek for all his help. Also thanks to BlueR/Marc Tran for the AP Bar.
We tackled this project by ourselves for the most part (thanks to Hubert also for his help later on in the evening)... it wouldn't have been so bad had we not tightened down the rear bars and put the panels back on, just to have to take them off, loosen the bars, and play around to get the main hoop attached.
Anyways... That's that.

Well... if we would have left the panels out, it would have taken only a few hours, 3 at most. But fitting the panels over the top of the rear bars, dremeling, fitting the speakers, and our 'mishap' with tightening the rears down not thinking that we'd have to 'shimmy' the main hoop into the rear bars... that added several hours.
We started at 7pm and finished about 2:30am. We weren't working at breakneck speed, but we weren't loafing around either.
Next time, if there is a next time... I'm not putting panels in.
DsR - Yeh, I had metal shavings in my palms, plastic shavings on my face/stuck on my glasses (from dremeling the panels)... fun.
Drill holes... wow. its amazing how easy it is to get through. Easiest part of the install.

Looks great! Brings back fond memories of when DMF and I installed my Autopower 6 pt.
Let's just say you did it with far less damage.
