Anyone converted to RWD? opinions? comments?
thought about it a year ago but dismissed it because i didnt want to spend the extra cash to get a civic but now that i do...TIME TO DRIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'v tryed front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, and ALL WHEEL DRIVE drifting my opinion is as follows:
FWD-ok not all that fun
RWD-most controll fun!!!!
AWD-HARD AS F*CK but possible and very, VERY DANGEROUS on road- believe me been there done that.
i have a cheep lil 86 civic hatch that i can do anthing to... considering:
*engine swap (a turbo'd B series for money reasons) or possibly an american V8 since im looking for torque and well, Honda's engines make little power for the money when going all motor as opposed to a cheap 325 hp mustang engine with no computer!
* using one of these for a RWD conversion subaru rear end(rear differential and transaxels)or old mercury couger(solid axel) or chance finding an s2000 rear end for less than a million dollars or whatever someone recommends
*cutting off rear section and hatch to make a small bed(pick-up tuck) where the trunk/hatch is like (if you've seen) the nissan 180sx conversion(look for the video clip on kazaa)
did i forget anything???
post your comments!!!!!!! your input is needed!

hell, talk about thinking outside the box.
Dude, if you can make any of your propositions come true, I will personally wet my pants. I haven't heard anybody on here even consider rwd or combining hondas and domestic parts. I'd PAY to see a car like the one you have in your head. Good luck, and keep a project post going!

can easily be done my neighbor is currently converting a fwd geo storm to a rwd 350. most of the work is done now. hes been working on it during the weekends only for about 8 months now. when hes finished with this swap im taking my B16 out and were putting in an S2000 motor swap converting to rwd in my hatch. so good luck to ya. P.S. here in knoxville at a show in pigeon forge ive seen an 96-00 civic with an 350 rwd. VERY VERY VERY PHAT
im glad to see this kind of support although im sure it'll require extensive body re-inforcement would you really pay to see this, if so pay now im BROKE! still cant think of anything else to add to my list of ideas

check out tinker219 thread in the forced induction forum.. he is doing a RWD delsol, with a H22a turbo..
and by saying honda offers little power for the money.. sorry but i beg to differ, our connects may differ, but domistic parts are expensive, and i can get running honda engines for cheap..
i'd consider, just mounting the engine in the back like tinker219, then doing a drive shaft.. it'd be much simpler, and more fun.. anyways.. g/l, if u wanna do something origanal like that.. lots of people have ideas, but almost no one has facts.. just keep that in mind.. ur gonn ahave to experiment urself

what about an EF wagon with a turbo A6 (or something else I guess) and the center diff welded up with no front axles? I have often thought about this, but I dont know how feasable it would be.

Its a creative idea but I think the truth is it will never get done becuase its a project with to many what if's and it will end up being a big waste of money, It doesnt really sound like your serious about it just kinda like what if???? but have a platform to go from.
just my opinion, why dont you buy an old bimmer cheap my best friend just did and we were out enjoying the turns allll night.

you people hating on rwd are retarded and obviously have never driven a real rwd car. rwd, is not gay and neither is drifting. why do u think real sports cars, supercars,F1 cars, stock cars like porsche mercedes bmw ferrari and ect all use rwd's instead of fwds? duhhh im not even gonna waste my time explaining to u rice heads.

He's not hating on rwd, he's making fun of drifting because it IS so gay. rwd is great and I've even owned a couple that I liked driving better than my CRX, and that is saying a LOT! Most sports cars like the ones you mentioned use rwd because of the weight transfer and being able to power out of a turn. On the other hand, drifting is so gay because it's all about *style*, form over function, "LOOK HOW FAST I CAN SCRUB MY TIRES OFF!" and that is just plain retarded. If it were about going fast then you would see Michael Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya doing it. drifting = stunnaz = gay, got it?

look buddy, drifting is not gay. there are two different kinds of drifts: show drifts and race drifts. both styles can be used to hit turns better then FWD cars which tend to understeer. yes there is a right and wrong way to drift. just cuz you can't understand don't ask me to help you.

lmao...
less pressure on the front wheels which turn the car
better turning radius
better acceleration out of turns
less understeer
more traction when launching
more stable at high speeds
more even weight distribution
better burnouts
donuts
powerslides
better drifts
ect ect... i'm sure i left some stuff out
now its your turn to enlighten us. please.

Given two equal drivers in two equal cars on a racetrack, one drifting and one not, the drifter will ALWAYS be slower. PERIOD! END OF STORY! OK, drifting isn't man-sex gay, but it IS silly all-about-style gay. Why? Because it's always slower than not drifting, that's why! When is the last time you saw someone win a solo-I or solo-II race drifting? NEVER! If it were faster they'd do it. It isn't, so they dont. Point made. Now stop getting your panties in a bunch because someone pointed out how silly drifting is. And I'm not a noob, I just don't post here much because I'm not a post ***** like most H-T members. I've probably been auto-xing as long as you've been alive, kid.

ever heard of the TOUGE in japan? drifting on that is definitely a better and a faster technique to use on the TOUGE. many courses from WRC rallies and initial d style mountain courses are timed best when drifting. don't be sad you can't whip around the corners like the drift cars.

Cause we dont like drifting we must be ricers? OK buddy.
There is a BIG difference in WRC and JUDGED drifting.
Well when I watch WRC I dont see them spinning tires the whole time and it certainly doesnt resemble what I see in drift comps.
I have drove plenty of RWD vehicles and I prefer FWD but I also prefer drag racing over auto x and drift.
As far as why you say RWD is better some points are pretty arguable like less understeer BUT they have more ____steer?
Better burnout? who cares and that only depends on who makes more power any FWD can make a ton of smoke with power.
More stable at higher speeds, some may agree but I dont and I know some agree with me.
This is all personal preference and this is a HONDA board were alot of us do PREFER FWD cars.
I am not trying to **** any one of but a judged comp is not motorsports, WRC, auto X, drag racing and so on is.
Drifting is like a car show its cars that are judged, yes cars are invloved but its not a motorsport.

i didn't say u had to like it, im saying respect it, since it owns many of the fwd hondas. drifting is not only about being judged, its about hitting the apex in the turns and exiting the turns at high speeds. look at initial d style races and you'll see effective drifting take place. WRC drivers also use drift techniques.

Oh, sorry, I guess I didn't see YOUR NAME on the forum. Now that I know it's yours I'll stop posting. Look kid, if drifting is your thing, if it floats your boat, then knock yourself out. More power to ya. Just don't try and tell me that it's the fastest way around a road course, because it isn't.

No. Should I? Ever heard of Sebring, LaMans, Nurburgring, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Daytona Motor Speedway, etc? Strange how no one has EVER won on one of those courses by *drifting* isn't it?

Comparing WRC to drifting on asphalt is one of the stupidest comparisons I've ever heard. You're making yourself look like an idiot, kid. The reason that WRC cars have to slide on gravel and dirt is because they never have any static traction to start with, so ALL of their traction is dynamic traction, i.e. sliding. And the ONLY time they are sliding on tarmac rallies is around hairpins because there literally isn't enough turning radius to do it without backing up if you don't handbrake the tail around. Watch them closely next time. They don't go *drifting* around those big sweepers on tarmac, do they? If you don't know what static and dynamic traction means, go buy some engineering textbooks.

I was talking to someone who lives in northern California and he has a TSi Talaon AWD( has minor upgrades to the talaon intake, exhaust, bigger turbo, apex fuel control system, blitz turbo controller) he said he raced a green civic hatch, and he got smoked so bad. Finally they pulled over and he asked what he had under the hood, the guy with the hatch looked at him and winked
he poped the hood and had a RX7 engine in it, ripped the whole floorpan out and re did it in sheet metal then painted it flat black so u couldent tell, all i can say is good god u gotta, have either lots of money or lots of time. No i havent personal seen it.

guys most of the time rwd cars handle better then fwd cars, not always but in most cases, that is why touring cars are rwd.
More power potential, less wheel hop and better over all center of gravity.
I love my crx and loved my old one but you guys need to quit boosting how great our cars are, if a shopping cart had a 100 hp motor it would handle great, are cars are merely light, economy, grocery getters. Its just what you do to the car after you bought it to make it faster.
No matter what honda says our cars were not made to be high performance machines, they were built to last for a long time and get people around for cheap. If our cars were made to go fast then they would have built somthing more along the lines of the s2ooo along time ago and stuck with more of those ideas.

lol do they even run fwds on the courses u mentioned? drifting is a bonus to owning a rwd. i can't believe ur still trying to make your pathetic point.
in mountain racing drifting is beneficial, ever heard of initial D you retard? fwds do not beat rwds that drift on the TOUGE. nuff said, you KID.
PS. stop sucking on hondas fwd **** so much and learn to appreciate different types of cars and different styles of driving. just cuz u can't drift doesn't mean you should hate on it.
i also agree with Kasper-EF8
