Here is a shot of our finished project, I have a japanese RS cluster from basically (JDM EX FOUR DOOR)


Here we take apart the virgin the virgin rs cluster.


You want to take the 4 screws off the back of the cluster and remove the face of the cluster... Then for the really tricky part removing the needle from the cluster face. (I used after pics for the how-to hence the miles you see)

You want to take a fork, just a regular *** eating fork and wedge it between the bottom of the needle and you want to use the screws on the sides of the needle to pop the needle right off. Just make sure to turn the needle away from the fork. Pretend you are popping out a ball joint with a ball joint remover (if you have ever done that before)



Your cluster should now look like this with the needle off.

Now you want to take the back of the cluster and just wiggle it right off


You also might want to remove the reset button (requires a phillips) if you want to play with those numbers or not. I wanted everything to match so I did.



Now you should have this to look at



You will need to take a phillips screwdriver and remove those two screws



and just extract this piece get it out of your way.



The jdm cluster actually has a plastic guard on it over the odometer to prevent external tampering through the cluster face... NICE!!!
TAKE IT OFF lol.



Then take a flathead screwdriver and wedge it in the cluster where the rod is clamped into the top of the odo numbers and just twist it gently and it will pop up like so. Move the desired numbers into position.



When your done gently make sure everything is satisfactory with the numbers and move the little forks on the rail to fall right into place as to not move your numbers out of the order you set them.



VIOLA!

Now reverse the process and put all your stuff back together and you should end up with this.



Now my miles match and although it was so tempting to actually just put the actuall miles on my rebuilt engine on the odo which is just 14,775k I would still have to add the actual chassis miles on to the cluster myself. I have no plans of selling the car but maybe this would help keep thieves away too by hiding the fact there isnt a new motor in there and the redline is drastically different.

However its funny watching the tach bottom out to 8200 in the deep redline for me to redline shift.

I only bought this cluster because a friend wanted an si cluster for his project car, and so I saw this for sale and bought it because it was only 50 bucks more than what I sold mine for. Only to find out my friend flaked...

My original cluster is for sale if anyone is interested by the way

doesnt the japanese rs cluster read in kilometers?? its not gonna read the same mileage (miles vs. kilometers)..... it wont be correct after driving a little bit....... you shoulda converted your miles to kilometers and put that # instead... just a thought.

 

How much do you want for your original cluster.

lol, i don't know if this is such a good thread, some people can use it for odometer fraud, but good info nonetheless. Also, i don't know if this will keep away thieves because it looks just like the si cluster, the redline is in the same physical spot as it is on the si cluster even though it's not at 8,000 rpm. You pretty much dropped $50 dollars just to do your friend a favor, you're a good friend. Your friend is shitty for not going through with the deal though, he shoulda bought the cluster offa you anyway or something.

Thats been discussed a thousand times over... people are going to change the miles on the car nonetheless. However, thats not my problem. Some people are dishonest and try to make a buck off that dishonesty more power to them. Karma is a ****!

 

So your car now has 87,447 miles. Way to go!

It should read 226,553 km.

It's no biggie I will just do the math difference to convert it from where I last put the cluster and fix it to read what its supposed to.

Yeah I feel the same way to but also when I put an rs badge in my grill people wont question it as much when they see it in two places. It kind of justify's my bling mods

i dont get it. why did u go from a perfectly good cluster to one that has a lower (and incorrect) redline and lower top speed? to be JaYdEEmm y0!?
