ok i like saving money so i paint everything myself. so far ive painted my lips, spoilers, mirrors, side mouldings and door handles. and now i finnally decided to paint the roof since it was soo faded and ugly when i bought it over a year ago. i did this at like 2:00 in the morning. the only thing i have left to do is to put some medium duty rubbing compound on it today and buff it so it will have a deep shine.
here is a before pic

got everything masked up

first coat of base went on

second coat of base (now is when im starting to get high, even though i have a pos mask)

first coat of clear went on

almost finished, just need to put rubbing compound on in the morning

and yes, i need a tripod bad.,.heh i might get one today..

Your pics went from still to really fuzzy and shaky. I think you got really high in there.

Are you swapping the timing belt and tensioner yourself? How difficlut is that? Do you have to re-adjust the timing once it's done? The reason I ask is I had my timing belt changed about 6 months ago by a local shop and ever since it was done I have a noise that sounds like a zipper when I hit the gas. They said that most likely it is the tensioner going bad and is noticable now because of the tension from the new belt. They want just as much $$$ to replace the tensioner as it was to put the belt on! You'd think that would be something they would just do at the same time, or at least recommend it!

i bought 2 cans of base and 2 of clear, it cost under $100, but you could get it cheaper if you didnt get the paint in a spray can. but since i dont have a air compressor or spray gun, i always get the rattle cans. what i used was: sandpaper, paint prep, soap and water, 2 cans/base, 2 cans/clear, medium duty rubbing compound.

i got the rubbing compund from paintscratch.com also..
tips...hmm uh do light coats, dont lay it on thick, do one quick coat. make sure it is evenly sprayed. then wait 20-30 mins, do another coat. keep doing that until you like it. then let it dry for at least and hour before you put clear on.
oh btw. if you goto paintscratch.com they have alot of instructions and tips for DIY painting..
