lsvtec's not being reliable is a myth. if you build it right and with the right products its easly obtainable with the setup you listed. do a search and you will find dozens of threads covering everything you could ever want to know.

Remember that any aftermarket piston or other product is focused more on performance than longevity. I am running a b18avtec w/ nearly no stock parts left besides the crank. Yet ive had no reliability issues. Just make sure its assembled correctly w/ new bearings, micropolish and balance the crank. Buying a block girdle and block gaurd wouldnt hurt if your worried about reliability, I put both of these in my block aswell. If your gonna spend the money, might as well do it right, or u may be spending the money all over again

sleeving ur block and going with better internals would make it really reliable, you just have to make sure that the person building your motor are reputable and knows what they are doing. I am running an LSVtec with ITR pistons and an 01 ITR head and havent had and major problems. Also do the recommended oil changes and all that stuff frequently and you will be fine.

I put a 8500 RPM reving daily abusing on my ls/vtec for about 30K
which includes a trip from NY to FLORIDA at and average speed of 120 and alot
of vtec. I've had the motor since august 2001 and drove it till November 2002
The only reason that I stopped driving my car was because a toyota echo
decided to run into my passenger side of my EK and damage the frame
Im currently getting ready to put the same motor with
new oil pump, water pump and timing belt and some performance parts in my new EK.

kinda sounds like me, have 20k on mine, 9k revlimit and balanced bottom end with usdm itr pistons.. still using LS oil/water pump.. planning a round trip to nyc-fl in march with b16 j1 tranny should be a good test

My ls/vtec is daily driven. Given, i don't beat the crap out of it, as most people that drive a VTEC honda claim. I drive it normal... norm al 3K shifting, and i only mash it when i'm merging onto the highway.

Bottom line: if they're built right, they'll last.

p.s. you don't have to get reinforced internals to run hard. Stock OEM parts work great too.
