Xtrac unveils transmission for Hot Rod cars

Xtrac has announced the release of a new transmission designed specifically for the rapidly expanding sport compact drag market. Xtrac, the world leader in motorsports transmissions and supplier to Formula 1, Indycar, World Rally Car, Sportscar and Touring car markets, has developed a new 4-speed, transverse, sequential shift transaxle. The construction is strongly based on the unit used to propel GM Racing and Bothwell Motorsports to the 2003 NHRA Pro FWD title and is now the only NHRA approved aftermarket transmission for the Hot Rod class.
The base transmission (pictured) weighs only 69 pounds, and mates to interchangeable bellhousings to suit different installations. Currently a (to be SFI approved) bellhousing is available for Honda cars.
All four gear ratios are easily changeable and two final drive options currently exist. US based engineers will be providing track support, and intend to introduce an upgrade kit to 'full powershift' later in the season.
For further details, contact Andrew Heard (andrew_heard@xtrac.com) or Richard Wolverson (richard_wolverson@xtrac.com) at Xtrac Inc, 6183 W. 80th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46278. Tel: 317-472-2454; Fax: 317-472-2455.

i wont say that trannys proven until gary slaps one in the civic and give it a few rips down the track and doesnt scatterit across the starting line...
Well it was used on the pro-fwd cavelier.....and that thing trapped 192mph
....i think it will be good on kennys or garys car
And if i remember correctly they had little tranny problems last season

Just a note, that cavalier trapped 192 because it spun the tires all the way down the track. When you hook it up it puts alot more stress on parts! I'm not saying it'll break or it won't, but only time will tell...
kenny got his the cost is 15,900 the bell housing is 1800.00 it takes marc williams axles the spool is 50/50 steel & aluminum and if you have complete marc williams axle you have to re measure the lengh of the shafts.they also only have 5 in the US and 3 are already taken you must place half down with credit check then you will get 1 to start testing.
thanks for clarifying tony.. i remember john was telling me how when they first started getting some good runs on the top end of the track.. the vibrations and such were rattling parts around, stressing things, loosening bolts.. all things that never happened with lots of passes on the car... its amazing what harmonics and vibrations can do to things

i dont know what class you race, but in the hot rod class the cost of maintenance on all of your stock tranny's for an entire season, yet alone the hassle to change them out every pass, and not to mention all the times that a broken tranny has cost us the race, year after year after year......spending money on a much better product than the factory transmission is an investment..............

i dont think theres a way to measure the amount of stress that occurs while trying to swap out before a round of eliminations.. especially right before the last round and they already called you up.. if it works godbless xtrac
Yeah, anyone who has been part of a crew who has to change trannys every few passes will understand the value of parts that don't break!!!
