its more of the smaller horizontal tube right at head level i am talking about. i understand youre supposed to be harnessed in, but i dont see what purpose it really serves there. well, good luck.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but that thing looks like a death trap to me. I'll assume it's a drag cage since it's not legal for most of the road race organizations I know for several reasons (main hoop cross brace, bent rear supports, tubing size, etc.). However, even for a drag cage I would have serious concerns about your ability to exit that car in a hurry. For comparison, these are my door bars:

...and I can tell you that it's no easy feat getting out of the car in an emergency. For my NASA license I had to demonstrate that I could exit the car (from the seat, in the harness, with window net up, and helmet on) in under 10 seconds with the door closed. Look at how much room you have to exit the car with your door closed!!

Pray you don't have a fire. How are you going to get out of this?

My honest suggestion to you is to put your steering wheel down, put on your helmet, mount the seat where you'll actually have it for racing, and practice exits. If you can't get it in under 10 seconds from harness to ground through a closed door, I would cut that crap out of the cage. And don't forget that cage padding with block even more of your exit.

DAMN yo! That's nuts!

i have to agree with Travis on this one.

Also, I hope this is not street driven because in the event of ANY collision, YOU WILL DIE.

I know this because my brother was in the back seat of a car, with his seat belt on, and they were hit, his head went and smashed against the B pillar and was was killed on contact. This was in a stock vehicle with no metal bars at close proximity, imagine in that car.

Sure in the event of something happening you won't get crushed but you'll suffer MAJOR head trama.

Just looking out for you.

**EDIT**

Why do the rear bars look like they extend to the back of the hatch? They should be going tot he rear shock towers... no?

Questions

1-Is this a race or street car?
2- If race, what kind of racing?

If that ever came onto grid I would not let it go out on track. Plus I don't think that you could find a dumb enough instructor to get into that car with you.

Thinking same thing plus he has many weak points as far as putting an X in the back and not mounted to the shock towers. X on the driver door. Bar right next to head, drivers window. Not only are the back bars welded to the wrong spot but they are curved at the bottom and will have a greater chance to break allot easier then if you ran them straight.

one also has to wonder does this affect the handling of the car any different? I have not driven a caged car but I know that they are stiffer but when put in the correct places.

My thoughts are the same.

Not trying to be a dick. Just would like to put my .02 cents out there. Coming from a grid worker for 3 years now. I am not calming to be the cage god but I know what works and what is not allowed on track.

Cut that bar by your head.. I don't think they'll even let you race with that bar right beside your head...

Yes it's an amazing cage and that's cool that your dad helped/built it, but unless you're planning on making that a super quick drag car I'd go back to the drawing board.
Funny car cage in a Civic...hmmm I just don't put two and two together on that one.

I was wondering how he was going to get in and out of that thing........Then I saw that he was a smaller guy. Dude, just dont gain any weight, or you will need a crowbar to get in and out.
