Just got a magnaflow exhaust put on my hatch and what a difference it made!
I just got 2 1/4 inch piping from the resonator after the cat and ran that into a magnaflow muffler. It sounds F*$&ING AWSOME! just a low grumble never getting to loud or obnixous. I love it. But I never expect much in horsepower gains or performance for that matter. I just want a better looking exhaust that sounded a little meanier. But I have got a lot more thorttle response and a lot more mid-range power. it really made a difference. Now I wonder what would happen with a header and 2 1/2" piping all the way back with a highflow cat. I'm afraid to take off the resonator and ruin that beautiful sound though.

One of my employees just put on a magnaflow system....sound is great! Although the shopped that installed it boned him for 850.00 bucks...ouch.
His jaw hit the ground when we showed him how much we could buy that same system for, and heck I would've taken a few minutes out of my day to throw it on.

sounds like something was seriously wrong with your old exhaust. I went from stock to the magnaflow cat-back. it absolutely destroyed my bottom end. throttle response was terrible. It was extremely unpleasant to drive in bumper to bumper traffic...
Ouch, $850, thats got to hurt. Mine was $270 shipped. At any rate, got to love the Magnaflow. I know I love mine. Still have people asking every now and then what kind it is on the street. Seems like a lot of people will come up and say "nice car" and then ask about the exhaust first thing.
And keep your resonator in there. You won't like it without it, gets a little raspy and a lot louder without it.

But your using a d-series,right? So maybe that engine just doesn't like better flowing exhaust as compared to a b-series. I was always told a header(i have yet to purchase) would make a world of difference on my engine. So its possible that this engine had to have a more restrictive exhaust all around as compared to a d-series.
