Default OT: Harbor Freight cordless impact gun, still waiting...

I ordered mine on Nov. 25th. Still haven't gotten it. Backorder sucks. UPS sucks. Waiting sucks.
Apparently, this is a wildly popular item. The retail store told me that it was on a 6 month backorder, and that I'd have better luck on the website. Does anyone actually have one of these? Is it worth the wait?
I gotta think that I could turn around and sell it on ebay at a tidy profit if they are in that short of supply.

the chicago electric one?

I don't have any personal experience but it seems from this board they don't take too well to being dropped. I'm gonna wait till the one at sears goes on sale.

1-year anything breaks just bring it back to the store warranty is $12.

I've dropped, kicked, banged and dirtied mine up and it works fine.

very few of the people that buy them on here have a store nearby. At least it seems so.

When i bought it the closest store was 2 hrs away.

Well worth the trip to avoid shipping from HF.... ugh.

Anyone see the 24v variable speed model in the catalog? Now comes with a non-proprietary battery - I think the panasonic - so replacement is possible.

It says it's variable speed in reverse only. I guess that's 50% better than the non-variable...

Hrmm, that's odd. When I bought my jack from them, there was not cost for shipping as far as I remember.

Just looked it up, no shipping, no tax, 5.95 handling fee - was delievered within a week IIRC (my canopy from somewhere else at the time took much longer and I think I ordered them on or near the same day).

Shipping also takes 2 weeks and they forget to put half the stuff you ordered in the box and do not call you if items are out of stock/backordered/discontinued.

Hm. In a twist of irony, my wife just called and said this package arrived. They told me they'd be shipping the order on or around Jan 23rd. Three weeks to ship from Illinois to Atlanta. Three weeks. I could have walked here faster.
The upside is that I have a HF retail store less than 4 miles from my house, so if it breaks, at least I don't have to go far for repair.

Kinda creepy, Chris. Not sure if the racing Gods are laughing or smiling upon you.

Seriously, good luck with the car, driver, parts, tools, and family preparations.

Repair? If it breaks under the 'normal' warranty it has to be sent back to HF.

If you bought the extended 'anything breaks' warranty, then you just exchange it in the store for a new one.

but you forget about them, since you ordered such a long time ago. Then when you realize you didnt get them, you realize they probably still charged you for the stuff that they didnt ship, but it was such a long time ago you dont have the receipt.

its like crack, we keep coming back for more abuse

Hey which model did you all order? The Chicago Electric one?

What's the big difference between the 18V, 24V all the different voltage levels that are offered on Harbor Freight?

I'm looking into buying one this weekend, and would like to know all the facts before I fork out any money!

Thanks in advance.

Got mine at the begining of the season last year. 19.2v Payed around $116. Regulary $169. Had about 4 or 5 people use it. With all the bangs and bumps, still work fine. All the locals here use and like them.

It works well, but I don't like the fact that it doesn't have some kind of torque/clutch setting when putting bolts back in.

i have had no problems so far with mine, however.

I picked up the 19.2V one for 99 bucks. It doesn't appear in their new catalog, but is still listed on their website. It looks a little different than their 120 dollar model, but the specs are the same. I figured for the 20-30 bucks, I could give it a try. I was going to go out and try it last night, but I don't have an impact socket for 19mm yet, and the Miata was out in the cold rain. Hm. Off to Sears today.

I picked up a pittsburg impact socket set at HF for $20, included a ton of sockets - even 30 and 32mm, but for some strange reason no 12mm socket.

Damn, man. It might as well be useless then.

Had the same thing happen at Lowes. Bought a set of metric Cobalt impact sockets but no 13mm - took it back and they swapped it out. They couldn't find another one (package) that had a non-metric in the mix. Chalk it up to happenstance.

what about this one here? Does this one seem decent?

Looks like it should be placed on a short bus rather than put in a tool box.

http://www.harborfreight.com/c...90834

It's 24V, and like I said previously, I'm a little s lo w so I have no clue what the difference between a 19.2V vs. a 24V impact gun would be.

This is actually the one I got. 24V means more power than 19.2, so it will spin a little harder. Of course, the difference between 220 and 240 is a little more than I need, but it cost less, so I figured I'd give it a try. If it croaks, I'll return it, and get the other one.
It weighs less, has more power, and cost 30 bucks less. Those were the pluses.
It only came with one battery, and it took for friggin' ever. That's about it for the minuses.
