11 second quarter mile on an open diff...possible?
Hi All:
I'm building a first gen turbo CRX (87). The engine build-up (pistons, rods, block posts) and swap are done. The car is running very well.
This car as a very short wheelbase, but it is very light. I'm estimating that the weight with me in it will be around 1900-1950 lbs.
I think I can comfortably get 275-300 whp out of the turbo (Precision SC50) on my D16A1/ZC hybrid (it's the twincam D series engine from the 1st gen Integra).
Nobody makes a "real" LSD for this tranny. Phantom Grip has an offering and I'm tempted to try it because I can get these trannies all day long for about 40 bucks a pop. The setup utilizes equal length 28mm axles. Everything in the tranny is steel...not like some of the later Civic trannys that have aluminum forks.
On paper, 300 whp in a 1900 lb car will surely yield 11's...but what about in the real world? I will be running slicks (not sure what size yet). The gearing in this tranny is very close...similar in spacing to the GS-R.
Thanks,
Sonny

yes...
Two years ago, I put down 320whp and 222lb tq (Corrected). My car weighed in at 2650, open diff, 24.5x8x13. 11.90@117.
It is very possible, especially in a lighter car.

Though everyone of our cars runs a Quaife LSD I've seen very good times with open diffs... Uglyasscivic (Cortney) has done a 10.34@140 in his street driven EH2...
Woohooo...great news. I've spent so much time working on my car and so little time driving my car that I wasn't sure what was possible.
Thanks for the response, guys!

Cross your fingers, toes and your nuts, and just hope for the best. It will work, but definately not the best way to go. I just didnt have the money.

whats an EH2?
whats an EH2?
You know, same thing as an EG (JDM) or 92-95 Civic hatch... EH2 is the real USDM code for the ones that came with a 1.5L motors, EH3 is for the Si model (1.6L motor)... Sorry for not being clear, hehe
The Hot Rod Sunfire that Marty runs is also open dif. Couldn't beleive it when I
spun one tire and the other went the other way! So 8.40's with a open dif!
