Default Stainless or Ceramic Header?

Which one would you'll recommend. I have heard that ceramic gives you more preformance but stainless looks better.

i dont know how ceramic header would give you more performance over a stainless one. stainless looks better esp when it starts to change colors, but it also costs more. if you are on a budget, get a ceramic and wrap it with header wrap because i have heard that sometimes ceramic headers flake off over time. I have also heard that the welds on certain ceramic headers can snap and are of less quality than most stainless pieces. i guess it all depends on what your willing to do and what your willing to spend.

Stainless steel.

Ceramic will deteriorate over time and then you'll regret not spending the extra $100 on stainless.

the only benefit of ceramic over SS is it doesn't put out as much heat as SS. downfall is if ceramic cracks you can't reweld it. i say SS is the way to go.

SS will last forever...it weights more.....5 lbs more ain't gonna slow you down....SS all the way, i dont know why anyone would even consider buying Ceramic..unless you get it for 50 bucks...not worth it......

I had a DC JDM 4-1 in ceramic, it was very soft and took no abuse underneath. It looks better IMO as it retains its colour under severe heat, but if i were getting one again i think i'd go for s/s. also i didnt like the tinny sound from the ceramic, i think the s/s should sound better because of its tougher quality steel

Wrong. This is why all the idiots w/a ceramic header have problems. DO NOT PUT HEAT WRAP ON A CERAMIC HEADER. Moisture and road grime gets stuck under all that heat wrap and in time the heat wrap just causes the header to rust through. Heat Wrap is for SS headers to help w/engine bay temps. Also to address the heat issue, under hood temps are ambient after about 35mph, so unless you race in park it's really not an issue. This is also why the Myth about SRI's is BS. SRI's don't suck in hot engine bay air, because once again, at 35mph the underhood temps are ambient. The only determining factors between purchasing a SS and a ceramic header are A) appearance, ceramic will not change over time. B) the rust issue, ceramics have a tendency to rust from the inside out, whereas SS headers just rust outside in. C) Ceramic headers can crack and aren't repairable, whereas SS headers are.

Stainless but its not really stainless. the heat will burn things onto the surface if you dont clean it properly.

I had ceramic coated DC header on my 90GS - after 3 years a crack formed btwn. two of the primaries. I took it to a weld shop and they used aluminum to patch the crack - so it is possible to seal any cracks on the DC CC headers.

But I'd still recommend SS over CC anyday - nothing really to worry about when buying SS.

YES! Finally someone who listens when we lecture about how bad ceramic is. People buy ceramic, have it rust out or crack, then regret going cheap to save $100 and have to buy ANOTHER header.

Enjoy your header.

for $80 i'd get that CC header, then save for a while, get the SS one and you could sell the ceramic for the same money you bought it for or slightly more even! I was fairly pleased with the DC CC header i had as i got it for next to nothing, but if i was buying a new one then i'd go the extra $100 or whatever for the s/s header.

i'd save my money for the stainless. it may seem like more but if the ceramic cracks you're gonna have to spend twice as much as you would have initially. just be safe and spend the extra money for the stainless and not have any worries.
