Default Ohlins suspension on an ITR

I have just purchased a set of high end Ohlins coilovers (originally designed for circuit racing) for my ITR. The primary reasons behind this decision are that I have successful road-racing friends in the PCA who highly recommended them, and the fact that for six months out of the year, I live ten minutes from the Ohlins USA headquarters (Hendersonville, NC). I plan on using this suspension for autocross/road-racing purposes, but I'm also considering leaving them on the car for the street. I have access to another vehicle for running errands and going to work, so the R won't get a lot of miles on the street. I need to know if anyone is using this suspension in a street driven R, and is it less hassle to swap back to the stock setup at the end of a track day, or deal with the comprimises in ride quality and height. I've searched, but Honda-Tech carries only limited information on Ohlins suspension, and most of it hasn't helped me.

If you swap the suspension you'll have to worry about your alignment unless you can get the ride height very close.

Judging by this: <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">or deal with the comprimises in ride quality and height</TD></TR></TABLE> you would be changing height. This would be a pain.

Personally, I'd just run them and accept that they'd need to be rebuilt a little more frequently.

Well, alignment isn't a problem as the car would be trailered back and forth to the track from a shop where we would align it each time. It's just a matter of aligning it when I get back to the shop if I decide to swap back to the stock suspension.

Yes, they are. Why? Ohlins USA said that they can take care of any technical support I need as well as rebuild them if necessary.

They should be streetable enough; I put 35K miles on Zeal S6 driving on the streets of ATL w/o any problem.

I would use the supplied dust boots; you don't want road grime to seep into the pistons.

I had plans for using them anyways, thanks again.

I had a set on my rhd eg6 for about 2 years and before those I had an older model of ohlins that were notched.
Never had any issues with them and I was running 10 and 8 kgm spring rates. Even the older set of ohlins that I sold to a friend are still going strong.

They are going to lower your ride height no matter how much you preload the spring because the shocks are about 1 1/2" shorter than my stock shocks were. So you will have to get an alignment done if you want to keep toe, camber adjustments, and corner weighting as close to oem specs.

I plan on having Ohlins set them up the first time I get them on the car, and then if I take them off, use their information to put everything back to their specs. So I'll be depending on them for correct alignment the first time. Thanks a lot.

I got them for $1350 shipped from Japan. I think they usually go for a lot more, but I do a lot of business with the guy so he hooks me up when he can.

Not at the moment, but I'll see if I can work something out in the near future.

There's an extra bed at my house in Miami.

But anyways, I don't think I'll be installing the suspension until I have about a week I can spend in Hendersonville. I want the Ohlins shop to set it up and make sure that everything is how it should be before I really get to driving with it.

Believe it or not yes, in Hendo of all places. It's about half a mile from downtown off of Spartanburg Highway.

What's even crazier is Mahle pistons has their US headquarters in Fletcher.

A buddy of mine had a set of Ohlins on his car. Drove it mostly as a daily driver, the car was streetable, while still having a great comfortable ride to it. It's hard to understand putting a good set of coilovers on the car for the crappy roads down in South Florida.

Well I live in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina for six months out of the year. I'll have to learn to deal with it down here though.
