Installing lexan on CRX 88-91
One day i woke up and i couldnt stand looking at the crx with glass windows, so me and my buddy decided to do lexan on it for our project.
tools needed and products
sharpie pen
Masking tape
sand paper
philips
5/8s self drill screws about 100
rubber washer about 200
Spira Cut <-- forgot the name
And all the lexan i forgot all the measurements but measure for youself ( u want something smaller then a quarter inch ) ( but for the rear windsheild quarter inch thick would be great or something smaller )
Drimal
some paint and primer ( depends on what u want )
steel cable lines, make sure its small
drill
Be really easy on the lexan because it breaks easy!!!!
1. take all the seals around the windows off break the tabs

2. a knife or a drill can put a hole through the rubber seal inside

3. use the steel cable lines to plug through the seal so one person gets on the other side and the other stays in side so you can swing it back and forth to cut the rubber seal inside

4. now with the drimal u can use it to resurface the area where the rubber seal use to be. what i mean by that is smoothen it out with the drimal.

5. After smoothing it down, wipe it down and put your masking tape around it and spray the primer, after that drys up spray your paint depending on what you want, we used white ( because thats all what we had ) should have went with black.

6. I didnt get pictures of us cutting the lexan but we used that spira cut <--not sure the name but close to it. but for this step use the sharpie and line up your holes for the screw make sure the hole is bigger then your self drill screws. due to failure your lexan will shatter.

7. place the lexan on, with the holes u drill on your lexan, put dots on the metal of the chassi, next take off the lexan now use your self drill screws and make the holes.
8. now after all the holes are on the metal wipe it down a bit, now take your rubber washer and place it over the hole of the metal, next place the lexan over it make sure they dont slide off the metal, basicly i what you want to do is have rubber support on both side of the lexan window, so when the car vibrates, it vibrates on the rubber washer, place your washer in your screw and plug them over the lexan and use your philips to self screw instead of using the drill.

tha dah......( i think black would look way better on the inside...... )
still in the process of doing the rear wind sheild i'll get some update soon when its done..
guys give me some feedback
just to let you guys know i did most of the work, just that its my camera so i am taking the pictures.......

sorta.
acrylic is cheaper than polycarbonate.
polycarbonate = lexan
acrylic = plexiglas
I just did this recently. Instead of rubber washers, I used a clear silicon from home depot. it was an adhesive used for windows and doors. Once it cures, you really don't need screws to hold it to the car...but, it's probably smarter to do so.
Good write up! what you could do to make it look more like factory glass is, paint the edge of the acrylic/polycarbonate black.
Also, pre-drill the holes with a small bit, then drill the larger holes with a bit that's just a bit bigger than the screws/rivots. If you use self-tapping screws, you won't need to pre-drill the holes on the car...as long as you hold the window in place when you're driving the screws.

air duct for cold air.
and even if the window isn't polycarbonate, you can use any paint to spray the edges for that OEM look. just make sure you spray either primer or something to rough up the surface so the paint can stick
