i was trying to find a good spot for my gauges in my crx, and i decided to make my own pod. i started with some 3/8" plywood for a face, then stapled some thin cardboard around the edge of it to form the top and sides. then i fiberglassed it, added some bondo, sanded, then painted it. i'm happy with how it turned out. here are some pics:

Very nice. Also, I like the way the switches are done below the EQ. Except if that's a progressive shift light......a little too much neck strain for my taste. But see, something like that, what you just made, would cost like 200 bucks. And you put the time and effort into it and made it yourself for next to nothing probably. Long live DIY-ers.

its actually a voltage meter for the electrical system....so i dont need to see it all the time.

check out the bolts in this pic. they go through the dash and i put a nut and washer through the otherside with the heater vent out:

so the inside is cardboard? did you just put resin on the cardboard or did you put a piece fleece cloth to cover the cardboard?

its just like you would patch a car with fiberglass.....the cardboard is there only to make the shape. then i painted a thin layer of resin on it, added fiberglass mat, and added more resin. let that dry, sand a little, and repeat until it is several layers thick and strong.

it doesnt look like much of anything through the windshield if i remember right.

 

for the great DIY job. but for those who don't know how to play with fiberglass, you could always get this guage pod...looks very similar off of ebay. buy it now for 8bucks
