Maintenance Light blinks for 10 seconds?
I read through the manual, i read through old (Archived posts) and didnt see anything that had to do with this. i know the light is there to remind of dealer service... but it isnt near any of the schedueled service miles. its a 98 LX 5 speed. the manual says it will blink for 2 seconds when you start the car, and then come on permanently after it has been ignored for a little while. anyone have a better clue as to what might be the problem? thanks.

you sure it is not the "CEL" thats blinking?? im not sure about 98's but i have a 94, my maintenance light does not blink at all, its just a colored tab that is spun by the speedo ... if it is ur cel count the times it blinks, and come back to the board with the amount of times it blinks... orrrr do a search on "CEL" or "Check Engine Light".

It doesn't go off based on the actual miles on the odometer, it goes off 7500 miles (or whatever) FROM THE LAST TIME YOU RESET IT. So if it goes off at 30k miles, and you ignore it & leave it on for a while, reset it at 33k, then it'll start again at 40500 miles. Get it?
As already mentioned, it goes off 7,500 miles after you last reset it (if I remember right (I lost my owner's manual), it will start blinking at 6,500 miles, then go solid at 7,500 miles).
Anyway, it's not a problem, it's a nice reminder that you need to do some maintenance on the car. Once you have completed the maintenance, reset it.
