Default Ways to remove oil spots from driveway and garage floor?

i finally sold my 280Z that i bought and never got the project off the ground. whats left behind is a nice oil spot from it sitting for over a year. anyone have ideas of what to do to at least minimize the stain? driveway is porous concrete, not asphalt.

also, id like to clean up the garage floor. any extra special ideas for the garage floor since its by nature a bit different concrete than the driveway.

i rent out this house and feel bad for my friend/landlord for messing up his driveway and garage, eventho he's a real understanding and tolerant guy.

Kitty Litter picks up oil and will minimize the stain.

I believe muriatic acid is for cleaning concrete but I have never tried it myself.

I have used a nasty chemical in a can called C-60, and I haven't found anything oil or grease related that stuff won't make go away. Carb cleaner or engine degreaser would also work if you can't find C-60.

C-60 here: http://www.kengseng.com/spraylist.asp

Cheers,
Sean

I've had good luck with kerosene and a wire brush. You may want to give that a shot.

I tried a strong solution of Simple Green with a brush and it did a pretty decent job on concrete. I think I just poured some concentrate on there, then let it sit for a bit before brushing and rinsing. I didn't have large puddles of oil though. I'd try this after the kitty litter.

Castrol Super Clean

Not the wheel cleaner, but the heavy duty stuff. I sprayed (a lot of) it directly onto the concrete let it sit for 15 minutes then hosed it off. Voila! If I had to use a brush, I used it sparingly only on the tough spots that remained.

And to further help the kitty litter, get a regular brick and rub the kitty litter into the spot with a little force, the pressure and the wieght of the brick does a lot.

Many years ago I used some cheap powdered laundry soap, made a gritty paste witgh a little water and rubbed it in with a stiff bristle brush. Did that a few tiems rinsing in between and it did a pretty good job. If you have some in the house, you might try it and save a trip to the store and a purchase.

Set dry powdered dishwashing detergent (like Cascade) on the stain, rub it in then pure some more. Let is sit overnight, then pour boiling hot water on it and scrub it with a wire brush.

The dishwashing detergent soaks up some of the oil and the hot water opens up the pores in the concrete.

dont do that. seriously. I know a guy that burned his house down cleaning something with gasoline.

If you want a cheap solvent, use kerosene. Its a lot safer. Still not as safe as oil dry followed by a strong detergent.
