Default Wheel Hop

Im posting this in the ITR forum cuz I want Integras with LSD to respond to this.
I have a '00 GSR with a Quiafe LSD and a CAI. I still have the stock Michelins.

Ive been reading thro this forum and noting 1/4 mile times. I see these Type-Rs running mid to high 14's STOCK. But my concern is are you guys getting wheel hop on your launches?

I saw that Englishtown thread from Incognito runnign a high 12. That must be one hell of a lunch with absolutely no wheel hop. How do you guys avoid the tire hop?

My best ET is a 15.1. And that is with a great launch. Maybe its the shity track that I run at, because I can get high 14's with a gTECH run. At the track my car just hops like a damn rabbit. Ive made Wheel hop my personal endeavor so Ive tried a few different techniques. Ive tried a small burn outs, Ive tried big ones. Ive tried practically swimming in the water box, Ive tried avoiding it. Ive tried launching at 3k all the way up to 7k, Wheel hop is present with any launch I have.

But what helped the most was when I RAISED my tire pressure to 36 psi up front. I was able to break the tires loose, freely, without hopping, but I got alot of tire spin and little traction. This is how I got that 15.1 One guy told me to lower my pressure to like 20, which I never tired but I dont think it would work, since wheel hop is caused by too much traction in the first place.

I got a friend with a GSR with a ITR LSD and he tried high and low pressure with his Kuma's and he had more hop than I did. So Im baffeled by this. This is pathetic that Im getting 15's and I see ITRs doing 14s and maybe 13's. My car shouldnt be an entire second slower.

My stupid GSR should be able to run a 14.9 with a LSD, CAI, and quick shifts if it only had a good launch. What are you guys doing to launch good and hard? Is it the tires, or the pressure or what?

Just as a side note. I had two friends who just bought RSX Type-S's come up to the track with me last weekend. The stock RSX-S is clearly a faster car than mine. And one of them is a better driver than I am. They were getting so much wheel hop the fastest run they mustered that night was a pathetic 15.8 with a RSX-S!!! I am more familar with my car than they were with their new cars nonetheless when I raced the better driver, I would kill him on the launch.. After that he would steadily start to catch up, But I sill was able to beat him by 2 or 3 car lengths.

RSX-R, no LSD, better tires, better suspension. More wheel hop.
I dont get it... Are all FWD cars impossible to launch without wheel hop??!

Ive heard about that Z10 kit.. Does that mean that its just suspension that is the cause of wheel hop?

This is a disaster!

Yes, it is possible to launch the car without wheel hop. Just get some ES or Prothane engine mounts. I got myseld a set a dew weeks ago and I am loving it. I got the left and right installed, but I am sure if u install all 3 (left, right and rear) it would be even better. The only drawback is that the car shakes like crazy. The whole dash will rattle. But over all it is a good investment.

Lower tire pressure will help. But most high performance radials will
have raather stiff sidewalls which promote wheel hop.

My solution? Soft sidewall drag slicks.

You can get the new Z10 engineering radius arms. They work great!

I second the Z-10 bars. I had bad wheel hop whenever I went WOT out of a slow speed turn. I got the motor mounts, but I still had some fairly bad hop. With the Z-10 bars, there is no wheel hop at all. If you don't want the bars though, you'll want to go to a thicker front sway bar. I'm currently not running a front bar, and that would also attribute to my really bad wheel hop.

yeah I think this Z10 would be a pretty good investiment. Almost a nessecity for anyone who drag races a FWD car.

Wheres that Z10 salesmen on this forum? Hey- how much does the kit cost for a '00 GSR.

you ususally get wheel hop from launching not high enough to spin the tires, but too high to get good traction.
i dont if that makes sense to you or not,. just play eith tire pressure and launch at different points and youll understand .

Do you think an upper torque strut on the engine would help? It would be easy to make...

OK, since we're on the subject of wheel hop, let me get in. I ran the 12.93 at Englishtown on 22x8x13" slicks. I launched between 6500 and 6800rpms, slipping the clutch fast. Got absolutely no wheel hop from them. Pulled consistent low to mid 1.8 60 foot times with them. On drag radials, my car hops when they're deflated to 22psi or lower. I have the Place Racing upper left and right mounts (solid urethane), and the ES inserts for the lower 2 and rear mount. I have the Z10 radius arms and they did help the wheel hop, but I still get some. On street tires, I found it best to just keep them at 32psi and slip the clutch out quick from 4500rpms. tires spin a little bit, then starts hopping, but not bad. I think it's from the left and right tires gripping at different times, then breaking traction again.

At the event last Sunday, I ran a friend's stock ITR to a 14.7. It had a little bit of wheel hop towards the top of 1st gear. I don't think there's any way to totally get rid of it.

I have a stock suspension setup, and I've always got my stock tires fully inflated. I've raced on all kinds of surfaces and never had wheel hop. I can't say I'd even know what it felt like.

I don't understand how a front sway bar would make a difference drag racing. Is it that when the wheels hop they hop one at a time and the sway bar pushes the hopping one down while lifing the grounded one?

I found that my quickest times had no wheel hop because I launched at a higher RPM. It seemed that my best times were when the wheels finally got full traction about 1000 rpm before shifting to second. Then again I've only run on Toyo RA1s and Kumho V700s. I was quicker on the Toyos incedentally.

Default Z10

I would suggest the Z10 setup, as well. They will ELIMINATE wheel hop w/out having to purchase anything else. Check the website, that del sol is making more than 200 hp, no wheel hop whatsoever. And my, aren't you in luck there's a Z10 group buy going on.

website: http://www.z10eng.com
group buy info: http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/7281/z10.html
test: http://www.hybrid.honda-perf.org/tech/z10.html

I love this Z10 thing.. I think I am going to get in on that group buy.

Anyone know how much this kit weighs, the GSR version?

Does this kit help anything but wheel hop? I don't have a problem with wheel hop. What if you don't drag race, but road race?
