Default HELP! CAR SHUT DOWN ON FREEWAY! COULD IT BE A DISTRIBUTOR PROBLEM!!

hey guys, i was going up an onramp, when about 4k rpm at the top of 3rd, the car sounded like it tapped redline, but I wasnt, and the rpm's just dropped, and the car just died on the side of the freeway. It just finished raining, I thought of a number of things, either I just hydrolocked or my distributor just fucked up on me. I know a few people that have had that same problem w/ their cars and ended up being it. The car is cranking over normally but just not starting, not a slow crank, I checked the dipstick and oil looks thick enough to be normal, so I think hydrolock might not be the problem. help guys! i need the car running again. any input would help, also if anyone has a b18b1 dist they would like to sell me. hit me up!

Check to see if it's getting spark.

How many miles are on your car? You think it could be your timing belt?

haha, just did that the like 2 weeks ago. timing belt, water pump, denso iridium spark plugs. we thought last time it was my distributor. but if it were to be a bad coil, the car wouldn't even be cranking over? it has about 110k on the motor. the power is still there but since i got the car used at 70k, i guess a lot of parts needed to be changed also.

When my car died on the highway, it happened to be that the screw came out of the rotor in the distributor. Might want to check that out too. Also, the car will crank if the coil is bad. The coil has nothing to do with the starter. You should also check the igniter.

Sounds like the igniter or the coil. If the engine turns over then it isn't hydrolocked. You can pull a plug and see if it has fuel on it. If there is fuel on the plug and it isn't working then it is probably the igniter or coil in the distributor.
