Default h22 swap in a road racer? I searched but couldn't find what i needed

if i swap an h22 into a crx, obviously i'd have to compansate for the xtra weight w/ suspension and brake mods etc... but HOW MUCH compensation would i need and would the power output and handling be worth it? Just wondering if this COULD be a better combo then the b18 which i'm running now.
Also, out of curiosity, are there any competitive/ half-way competitive non-vtec cars in H1?
Thanx.
See you all this season

well IMO a stock h22 is not a better road race engine choice for the CR-x than the b18

The problem is not the weight after all most clases have a minimum and you could easily be well under that. The problem is the size.

It leave you with little room to run a tuned header or a good sized radiator, and the mount kits can put alot of strain on the axles. Plus unlike the b series motors you don't have access to such a large and relatively inexpensive selection of trans and gear ratios.

Durability wise I think the b18 would be better but then if you build your engine then it probably wont matter

If there are non vtec cars doing well they are in the minority. Though that doesn't have to be the case, however most people like the higher base output and shorter gearing of the vtec models.

Personally if my financial situation keeps on doing okay I will be building a second b20 to run h1 with hopefully by mid season.

could be wrong, but i think fastom's accord has n h22 in it. or it might just be a b18C5. i think hasport put a h22 in an accord or integra and they had a lot of suspension problems because it was too front heavy.

youre not going to read about it much since it doesnt happen much.

I'm swapping a h22 or f20b into my cx over the winter hopefully after its all built. And its going to be my autox car and I'm thinking about road racing it a little also, but that all depends. But I wouldn't put a h22 into a crx their isn't enough room for radiators, and ect...... I know its going to be a little front heavy but I think I have that pretty much taken care of, within the rule book rules.

Common misconception my friend.. Per RPM, the H22a1 m2f4 tranny is geared lower than a 4.9 ITR tranny.. My STOCK prelude tranny tops out at 139mph, where I think a same sized tired 4.9 ITR will do 145...

I havn't driven a car that is geared shorter per gear to its redline, then the prelude vtec ones..

i agree with corey on this.....99.999% of the people out there that say this is a "BAD SWAP" have no clue!!!!!!!!!!!1 period!!!!! this setup in a hatch or crx is gonna be fast!!!!

even a stock h22 in a crx is a mid 12 second car with no mods....no b series is gonna get close to that STOCK FOR STOCK!!

this means every straight you are probably gonna pull 1-2 seconds away....and you can easily compensate for the 50-75 extra lbs....

and you can't run a tuned header?? what are you smoking dude!!! that was the dumbest statement of 04 so far....

i would try this in a hatch but funding does not allow it!!!

Are h-motors more expensive when they blow up?

this is a what a tuned header might look like and even this will not fit in the CRX chasis, I don't remeber saying it's impossible however it's going to be difficult when barely the stock EM fits.

Chad, this isn't a drag race man, but I do understand what you are trying to imply about the straight away speed. Yeah but what happens when you have to brake down that long front straight away, with all that weight pushing up front. But I really can't say anything because I"m swapping one in my car also. I just think it would be a little more difficult to get it handle "decently" in a crx opposed to a newer generation hatch like you have. I just picture it understeering way too much are turns unless he is going to have hoosiers

actually an h22 in race trim might be only 100 or less pounds heavier in the front than a stock crx considering lightweight hood and bolt ons flywheel rims ect, and you can easily position matching weight in the rear to make class minimums.
