Spoon Brakes Install ---HELP!!!---
I tried to install the damn calipers and new rotors as I thought its a straight bolt-on? I'm using the stock 15" rims and I think thay are +50 offset? (correct me pls if I'm wrong). It didn't looked like it will clear the 15" when comparing the size of the Spoons to the stockers as they are so much larger, but I threw caution to the wind and just bolted it on anyway as many of you here are using them. Well, when I put the wheel back on they clear on the insides but then to my horror the wheel would not turn
There isn't enough clearance on the face on the Spoons (where the logo 'Spoon' is) so the Spokes on the wheel is scraping on it
and so would not turn!? Is it just me? I made sure its the corect side and even tried it with the stock rotors on just to see if it was the new rotors that might be wrong but still the same. The p/n for the Spoons are actually for the EK but I was assured that they would go on my DC2.....Could this be the problem?
Now I have to find some wheel spacers to get the clearance that I need
I don;' want to have to resort to this if they're suppose to go straight on. Any help or pointers I would really appreciate. Its my 1st attempt at brakes so I could be stoopid...TIA

I have a feeling that you're from Europe or Aussie. Where are you from and what kind of 15" OEM wheel do you get in your market?
This caliper clears the CTR 15" wheels, which is what we get on our ITR in the US market.

I think that explains why they don't clear the calipers....
Looks like your car is boosted, have you thought of going with 16" or even 17" rims? With boost, the larger rims should work better with the output you have, and would be easier to clear the brakes too.

If you don't mind losing the bling factor, I have heard people sanding down the Spoon logo. You should be able to clear the wheel afer that.
I just took off a set of 17" off my car and have decided to use them for shows only. The stock 15" are so much lighter and drives better besides greater acceleration. I nearly too a second off my ET using the stockers. So I will use these for street and track as I have R compound rubber on them.
I think I'm gonna tray a 3-5mm spacer, should clear then.

the spoon calipers should have came with a set of washers. put it between the calipers and the hub assembly, that should take care of it. its in the instruction manual.
edit: i just realize that would bring it out more, check to see if its in that position, it should be between the bolthead and the hub assembly.

You had it right the first time.
Is you add washers in between the caliper and the hub that will bring the caliper inwards. But you also need to keep an eye on the rotor to see if its centered if its offset too much to one side it'll catch the pad all the time.

Even though the calipers cleared my stock 15's I didnt feel safe with it because it was really close.....so I run a 5mm spacer and now I dont have to worry

No worries on the stock wheels, I think I've got several thousand track miles on stock wheels/spoon calipers w/o any problems

What did I not feel safe about???
Being on track with like 1.5mm or less of room between the wheel and caliper I just have one of those images in my head of a rock or melted tire getting caught in between or whatever else while on track.....it's just one of those things where I'd rather be safe then have some kind of 1/1,000,000,000 incidents happen to me....I had the spacers sitting around anyway so I dont mind the extra track width up front

Yah I know a couple people that do the same....for some reason it was just too close for comfort with me. When the lugs were hand tight the rim would hit the caliper until I torqued everything down properly. And I didn't want to take any chances.
nothing wrong with running that setup on stock rims..
dont worry about melted tire getting up there in the brakes. its really not an issue. lol
if your going to run those spacers though get some extended studs at least. ARP

@jdmspoonitr: there was an NSX on a meet recently, that had just a hair of space between the OEM calipers and aftermarket wheels... LITERALLY... I couldn't see a space with my eyes, but the wheels turned without scraping sounds, so it'll be good I guess...
guy said he had it like that for 18 months already :S
