turn signals dont go off after completing the turn???
recently, seemingly out of nowhere, i had a problem arise. whenever i finish my turn, my turn signals dont shut off and i must manually hit the lever to make them go off. i got a 96 civic ex. anyone know how to fix this or why it went wrong?
If I'm not mistaken there is a canceling spring that could have gone bad. They are in the column where the turn signal lever attaches. Thats if Honda's lever is set up similar to the way GM does it. They should only cost a buck or two.
There is a cam that cancels the turn signal stalk in the steering column. You are going to have to remove your steering wheel to see it.
I've replaced a couple of them at the dealership. It's pretty straightforward, depending on how much experience you have with working on cars. Follow all the steps in the shop manual, airbags aren't cool when they blow up in your face.
The reason it goes bad is because it is made of plastic.

What he said. If you don't know how to reset the SRS, you'll have to take the car to the dealer or the airbags wont work.

I couldn't help you there.
You can see the parts at http://hondaautomotiveparts.com. Under combination switch, part #7.
I used the online manual at work that only Honda dealerships have.
Some of these other guys might be able to help you out.

That is completely normal once you switch to a non-oem steering wheel/hub combo.

No it isn't. The slot in the end of the hub lines up with the metal tabs on the white signal return thing. If you install it properly, it will work properly.

Depends on how much experience you have working with cars.
If its not put back together exactly the way you took it apart, you might have a problem.
First you have to take it apart to confirm which piece is broken. Taking a guess is usually 50/50. Most likely it's part #007(body, switch) in the link above, only other part is #008(switch, lighting.) A shop manual is your best bet, one with a lot of pictures.
The SRS light won't come on as long as you disconnect the battery before removing the airbag, and then reconnecting the airbag before connecting the battery. The SRS system checks for an open in the airbag circuit during startup, and will show the SRS light if an airbag is disconnected.
If you're not comfortable with it, just take it to a shop.
The shop will charge you at least an hour for diagnosis, and then you have to pay for labor plus the price of the parts.
But then again I'm a NOOBIE, my posts don't mean anything.

**** i have this problem too, on my 96 ex. when i first got the car at the end of summer the blinkers worked fine, then once in a while they wouldn't turn off. now they usually don't turn off, however once in a while they do (at random times). does anyone have an actual picture of this so called part?
I have a Momo wheel and this only happens on my left turn signal, and it's occaisonally and not every time. ????????? What's going on?
Well, I'll be damned... the search function worked for a change. This just happened to my civ-rack this morning... I just replaced my steering wheel last week (with a leather wrapped EX version...) and the signal turner offer thing worked fine until this morning. I guess I'll be checking out part number 7? Thanks guys... I'll try to yank the airbag and wheel tonight and let you know how it goes.
Got my part from Honda... The showed it in the computer as a 'canceling cam' or something like that... the part number in case you're interested is 35251-S04-A81... should list for around 10-11 bucks...
