Default battery relocation

did you buy a kit or make your own kit to put your battery in the trunk. and how do you like it. if you made your own what did you use and how much did it cost.

Homedepot for 12 feet of 4 gauge wire and 5 feet of 8 gauge wire
Autozone for battery ends that you clamp onto the wire

I forgot where I got the battery box from, but it was under $10. Its a marine battery box.

The whole project cost about $20

I did, yes. I ran 2 ground wires though. One to the handbrake bracket and one back up to the stock location.

Make sure you use a big enough gauge wire, my friend ran something small and sometimes it had a hard time starting, 4 or 2 gauge. Maybe 0 for same measure.

I ran multiple 4 guage, and 8 guage wires.

2 seperate 4 guage for the positive terminal (engine fuse box and starter)
3 seperate grounds - two 4 guage wires to the front chassis ground and tranny ground, then one 8 guage wire for the rear trunk ground.

I'm also using an opima drycell odyssey battery in the cargo compartment just behind the passenger seat. Excellent fit, lightwheight and it looks awesome when you lift up the cargo lid.

i had to move mine cause i was using the 99-00 Si AEM intake which ran right through my battery area.

So i purchased a small 11lb Dry-cell battery and threw it in my trunk thing cost me like $65 shipped and hasn't caused me a single problem or ever died on me.

I used
4 Gauge Amp wire
8 Gauge amp wire
Battery connectors from Autozone, Kragen or whatever
Amp distribution block (basically a $10 insulated block with one 4 gauge connector and four 8 gauge connectors)

this was a really easy install and cost me about $80 to do the whole thing including the battery price. I would recommend getting a cheap dry-cell battery opposed to the battery box, just for safety. as air tight as those boxes are i still don't entirely trust acid fumes in my car...plus the dry-cell you can mount absolutely anywhere in any position and at 11lbs there is no weight issues.

If you have a CRX or EF Civic, it removes about 15lbs off of your front right tire. Useful for HPDEs and road racing.

i was flipping through my summit catalog the other day and noticed an air-tight battery box for sale. it was $100, but claimed to prevent deadly battery gases from killing you. sounds like bunk to me, but does anyone have any educated comments?

Dont use an acid based battery but a gel-based. Optima Yellowtop is kinda heavy, but anything along that line 'n smaller goes. No special boxes or anything.. just a harness so it stays put.

i agree with you, screw the paranoia about the batterys in a hatch being unsafe and unhealthy, i have the summit kit in the spot where my spare tire was and it works great.

the reason for moving the battery is because if you dont it cant bo0lt down correcty if you use a big intake tube then it rubs against cable for the clutch and then battery acis goes all over your tranny i know it happened to me

i made everything my self. took a sheet of stainless and cut out a x then folded it up on a metal bender. then welded it built a top the cut out 3 holes. went to the local sterio shop and got 19 feet of 0 gauge wire by the way thats what u should use to run 80 amps over 15 feet. then had that go to a distrobution block that went to what used to plug into the terminal. then 3, 0 gauge gromets to go through the battery box and 1 for the firewall. new terminals. it looks great cut a hole in the carpet so u can only see the top half of the box but in the end it did end up costing near 200 bucks but it was all worth it

Screw that summit kit. That little baby strap is not going to hold that battery down when you get in an accident and that battery comes at your head at 800 MPH. Good luck to those who don't securely relocate it.
