Default Oem Foglights on with Parking lights: by Lastred

i know a couple of you have been in need of pics, since they dont show up on word for you. so here it is

*I DID NOT WRITE THIS*

Oem Honda Civic Fog lights with parking lights

I made this guide because I did it myself and have done it for many others. It has worked for me and should work for you but I do not take any responsibility for any mistake made or result of performing this modification.

With that said lets get started.

Needed:

Small Jewelers flathead screwdriver

10 amp mini automotive fuse

It is HIGHLY recommended that you unplug the negative terminal of you battery prior to any electrical work on your car. Before you do this remember that this will reset most car stereos memory and will require the key code to get back on!!!

Section one. Fog lights already installed (if not installed skip to step 5)

1. First thing you got to do is take apart the knee bolster on the bottom side of the dash. A Phillips screw up above the power mirror control and one on each bottom corner should get the big piece off (warning the upper right corner is clipped in so it will take a little tugging to get off. Pull the panel away and make sure to unplug the wiring harnesses for the lights and mirrors.

2. Now you need to remove the plastic cover over the steering column. A few screws should take care of that. Then you will need to GENTLY pull off the bottom of the column. This will be a bit tricky because there are plastic clips locking together. I pushed in towards the center to get most of them to pop apart but they are easily broken.

3. Ok now that is off you should see something like this: Now you need to pull these 2 plugs out. They do have a plastic hook on them so you will need to press it to get them out.

4. Once you have them out unwrap the tape around the wires between the 2 plugs so it looks like this:

5. Now you need to grab your jewelers screw driver to swap some wires. To get them to come out you will need to insert the screw driver and unclip the little plastic tab holding the metal plug in.

6. So first undo the wires that are long and going into a wire loom, so you should end up with this:

7. Now with the harness you need to remove one of the short wires. Do only the one circled in the diagram, the one on the right is clearly marked, it is red with a green stripe. Just remove that one wire completely from both sides.

8. Now take the 2 long wires that you took out in step 6 and put them in the place of the red and green wire you just removed in step 7.

9. Now put the red and green wire in the empty spot in the harnesses left by the long red ones.

10. Now go to your inside fuse panel, you canÂ’t miss it with the knee bolster off and find the tail light fuse. It should be 5 amps. Remove it and replace it with a 10 amp fuse.

11. Plug the harness back in and reconnect the battery (if you were smart enough to do so). Give it a test and now when you have your parking lights on you should be able to have your fog lights on. This also includes regular low beam and high beam.

12. Reassemble your car and enjoy!!!

I used this write up a week ago to do mine. Made it very easy. Nice job. One thing, my taillight fuse was 7.5 amps and not 5. In fact, that was the lowest amp fuse in my fuse box. Any thoughts?

When you did this in your car and your friends cars, they were all 5 amp fuses? What other slots utilized a 5 amp? I'm just curious. There are no slots in my fuse box that was lower than 7.5 amp.

I did replace it with a 10 amp, and they work. I'm going to keep the 10 amp there for now and see if blows out before putting a 15 in there.

Fog lights, with parking lights? Im wondering
why you would want to do it like this? Fog lights
are used for bad weather, and parking lights are
used when its dusk, or for parking. Strange.

all i did back in 94 when i put my catz fog lights in (which I no longer have), was connect the fog lights power wire to the 10A Hazard fuse inside the fuse box in the engine bay located on the left side of an EG. i dont know if its the same side on other models. but anyways...the fogs only worked with the parking lights on...easiest way IMO.

Yes

This mod isn't for aftermarket fogs. This is for modding the stock Honda fog light harness. The stock setup doesn't allow the fogs to turn on without the headlights being turned on also.

Many people like turn on their parking lights and fog lights on in the rain or at dusk.

Could have just shoved the wire into the parking light fuse with the fuse and saved yourself all that work.

Edit Synergy001 said the same thing. Save youself the time.

It doenst matter if theyre OEM or aftermarket, trust me I could wire the OEM fogs to come on WITHOUT the headlights on. The way Synergy001 said works and you dont have to rip apart your OEM harness to do so.
