Default People who had their springs from the clutch disk fall out.

Hey guys, I am still debating whether to take the shop that supposedly diagnosed my shifting issue as a bad tranny. I need to get your feedback before I proceed.

Well, I took my car to this shop to have the clutch changed hoping that the clutch was causing a VERY bad issue with my car. When I had the original tranny in the car...sometimes the tranny would COMPLETELY lock me out of putting the car in ANY gear. However, sometimes it would let me put the car in gear but then it would get COMPLETELY stuck in gear. I would have to turn the car off to get the shifter out of first.

However, there was another issue. When the tranny was STUCK in gear...if I pulled over and pushed the clutch in...the car would roll forward like a car with an automatic tranny. When it did this with the clutch ALL the way in....if I put the brake on...the car would not stall. It felt EXACTLY like an auto tranny car.

Someone suggested that it could have been due to a spring from the clitch disk falling out.

When I took my car to the shop, I told him to let me know if the tranny was bad. I also let him know that I had a spare tranny and I could bring it down immediately. Well, he called the next dat and just told me that the tranny was bad. So I took the other tranny to his shop.

When all the repairs were made and I paid my bill, I asked for my tranny and axles back. His response, "I don't have them anymore. i already sent the to the dismantlers". He never even asked me if he could do that. He even sent my axles.

Any ideas?? Any suggestions on what I should do??

Tell him his only options are to get your stuff back in good shape, replace all parts, or talk to your lawyer.

It was your stuff; you should have asked first, but I wouldn't take "sorry, it's too late" for an answer. Get your stuff back.

thats absolute B.S., If all he did was the labor of the job, then legally he has no right to give away or sell your original parts. If he is receiving any money from his "dismantler" then he is basically selling stolen property. I would talk to him and make him give your stuff back. If he doesn't then contact a police file a report so that you have the paper trail started so that when and if you have to goto lawyer you have that much more evidence to prove your case so that you can be reimbursed for your time and your missing items.

One of my clutch disc springs was loose which made it hard to put the car into first gear.

I broke my stock clutch a few years back, and from what you've said, I bet it was just your clutch that was bad. The springs came out on mine, and I could not shift at all, except with the car off, like your describing.

That "mechanic" definately ripped you off. Your tranny is probably on its way into someone elses car, with a new clutch. That's probably all you needed.

yeah,. that's what I was thinking. My car had the OEM clutch on it and it had 156K miles on it. I am SURE the clutch was the issue.

Another question. I am wondering if he even changed my tranny. Maybe it is the same one in there. How can I tell if my original tranny is still in my car?? Is there a number on the tranny that I can use to determine this??

Thanks for all your help guys.

I would talk to a Lawyer ASAP! That is not cool.
Yes sounds to me exactly like my friends CRX was doing when a spring popped out. I would bet almost anything it was just the clutch. Bad Tranny could not make you move forward when you stop if the clutch is pressed. If it is the tranny is not connected to the engine thus could not move the car.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought.

I am going to follow through with this. He took advantage of me. I will send him a letter asking him to remedy this or I will persue legal consultation.

I have another guy who is a witness to all this too.

Thanks for all your help.
