are you gonna be adding anything new such as clutch and flywheel since everything is out why not spend a little more loot to kill a few birds with one big stone... a word of advice make sure whoever is doing the swap has all the parts otherwise install will start to become tedious

i would like to do aan auto to manual swap on my 95 rs, but i heard different opinions from a lot of people, some say its bad, and its not a good idea, and some people say its no problem and will work fine. this is getting done by acura if it does get done. or.. just thought, some people think its a waste of money and you should just buy a stick car.. what do you guys think?

andre - very confused about doing this...

I successfully did a swap on my 97LS. Lemme give you a few pointers, perhaps you'll save a few bucks.

You don't need a new center console. Even though the the 5-speed one is different, some simple custom work will make it fit.

You obviously don't need a new gauge cluster, but you can if you want. I just took out the light bulbs for the P, N, R, D, etc.

Same thing with the ECU. You will be running a little richer than normal though, and your check engine light will be on. That is because of your automatic shift solenoid position. It has to be in the PARK position in order for you to take out your key. Oh, and your cruise control won't work either, unfortunately.

Umm...what else. Oh yeah, did you know you'll need a new starter? The starter on a 5-speed and automatic are slightly different where the mounting holes are. They are only like 5mm off, but that 5mm means you can't use it.

Finally...the passenger side motor mount had to be custom fabricated on mine. And the intermediary shaft had to be replaced with one from a 5-speed.

Okay...that should do it. Best of luck.

Andre....I would recommend it. I went from a 16.8 1/4 mile to a 15.9 with the same mods. I didn't do anything different. I don't think Acura would do something like that. At least, mine wouldn't. They just looked at me funny when I suggested the idea.

It actually isn't a technically difficult procedure. It's basically...ummm.."plug and play."

It might be a waste of money if you get it done for more than $2500 which is what most shops charge. And that's high. I got mine done for $1300....and this guy is getting his done for $1400. These are excellent prices.

$1500 doesn't seem too bad for a tranny swap, but I'm sure it'll be a lot more if you decided to throw in, say, a GS-R tranny as opposed to an LS or an aftermarket clutch and flywheel. I'm just wondering how reliable it would be. Have any of you who have switched to a 5-spd encountered any problems? I guess it all depends on the shop, huh? I wish I had the technical know-how to accomplish such a task myself!
