Default H23 crank into a H22 block

Is this possible? Any downsides of doing this if I can?

There is a stroker kit made for the H22a, but I don't know engine dynamics well enough to tell you if you can swap cranks. If that works, damn that'd be nice, 2.3l VTEC for cheap and honda quality.

I don't know if it will actually drop into the h22a block and fit and work or not, but...

The H23 crank is regarded as pretty weak. I'm not sure the details why, but the h23 crank is not as strong or durable as the h22a crank. Something like the H23 is not forged or not shot-peened or something like that where as the h22a one is...

H23 cranks are known to like to snap in two. I personally know at least 2 people that this happened to... All with nothing more than I/H/E bolt-ons.

If you swapped the crank, you would have to swap in the h23 rods as well. There have been a few cases of broken h23 cranks, poor manufacturing I guess.

this question has come up before. wasn't the answer no, because the extra stroke would cause the pistons to hit the valves. i believe the only way it would work was with both the crank and rods. i don't know what the does to the bore/stroke ratio.

Just put the H22a Head on the H23a bottom end. Possible and done. You're rod/stroke ratio gets a little worse, though and side loads are higher.

also......if you only swap in the h23 crank....the pistons WILL get a little friendly with the valves

grant lockwwod speedvision prelude uses a 2.3 complete block

just have to get it checked..there is no problems with reliability of the 2.3 crank and rods..just need to get a good condition one ...

u can gain lot of power by stroking to 2.3
and u can use h22a pistons or type S pistons cause the cleareance with the rods and crank of the 2.3 is the same vs th head

then again.. i've seen stroker kit to 2.5 l for a h22a

and grant lockwood with custom cams and other modif to their engine runs enar 230WHP so ..
u can make serious pwoer with that ..

Golden eagle sleeves are $800, I don't even want to know what labor is going to be on those.

Golden eagle will resleeve an H series block for about $900, including sleeves.

Sounds like a deal. Do you know how long they need to perform the work?

I'm workinng on the a project. I'm boring out a h22a1 block .025 orr .25 over.
But I'm not re-sleeving the block, If you want to re-sleeve the block the material the machinist use is steel walls, and spending over $700 for some isn't worth the cost unless you are doing some MAJOR FORCE INDUCTION, but If not leave it alone.

To me, a real FRANKENSTEIN MOTOR is Prelude Vtec head on a 2.3. Now that some major all motor power. But you'll have to retard the ignition timing or you'll begin to ping. I'd wish I bought a 2.3 block instead of 2.2....Oh well guess I'm going with TYPE-S pistons

would honing or boring out your stock sleeves accomplish the task of making them like new again? how much to bore out some stock sleeves? my motor has 152k on it and i'm trying to get the block back fresh before the h22 head goes on.

Keeping the same rods and stroke D.specs? What's your displacement and compression ratio going to be?

how far can you bore out a h23 cylinder and still keep stock size rings? or do you have to replace them anyways and get bigger ones? would a bore or hone with new rings make my cylinders almost like new??
