Why don't you sit in the car and move around your box?

Why would he move his amp? I noticed my system was hell of a lot louder when I faced it towards the back of my car and pretty much put it again the wall of my car rather then when I had it facing towards the front

Meant sub box. Ooops. Multi-tasking owns me.

I've always faced mine towards the rear of the car. Actually done this in all of my cars. I used to notice a huge difference before my box was secured when it would shift. For me the best sound is when the sub is facing towards the trunk and is as far back towards the seat as possible.

Note. Different cars, different results.

In hatchbacks the bass seems to bounch off the glass and fire back into the cabin...

I personally find good bass is a function of amp power and your adjustments, rather than location or direction. The rule I follow is to place the box in a position to best save trunk space. I always face the sub away from the interior to be most space efficient in my case because of the shape of the box.

You should face it to the rear so the woofer can Load. If it fires into the rear of the car the woofer creates pressure and then rolls out to the front of the car. If you face it foward, the distance for the woofer to create pressure is greater. Thus facing rear creates low end bass response and toward the front creates more of a punchier bass. Hope this helps...Matt

to me reflecting the bass always sounds better.. either off glass or metal/trunk itself..

Have your facing the rear. I did a comparison on 1-12 facing the front and it hit 140.2 db, and then switching it to face the rear gave me 144.3 db on a ported box. It makes a huge difference. But once you get up their in the dbs, you can't really tell the difference.

Try them all. With my tdx 12 in a ported box in the hatch of my teg, there was not much difference in spl facing different directions. Corner loading made the whole car vibrate better though

This is some of the most misinformation I've ever seen! A subwoofer facing the rear doesn't have time to "load" anything. It's all about pressure. I seal my trunk from the cabin in every car that I have had with a system. Why? Because if you are using ports throught the rear deck, or facing the subs to the front of the car, they have less area to pressurize which means higher SPL. The main thing that rear facing subs will do is help mask distortion that you'd hear if they were facing the front of the car. It gives you more room to think that you aren't doing mechanical damage to them when you really are...just can't hear it.

Built any world record setting systems?? If you seal the trunk from the cabin you are going to get about 1/5th the bass you would get in a same space invironment. Maybe you are the one that is misinformed?? So if I put lets say 24 12" subwoofers into an Astro Van. Then Make a wall between me and the woofers to " Seal it off" then that would make it louder. WOW all this time I was doing it wrong!!!

In fact the answer is 13 years, and no. I'm sure you haven't built any world record setting systems either. You mean to tell me that instead of sealing the trunk from the cabin, therefore creating a smaller space for the subs to pressurize will cause for a decrease in SPL? that's one of the most idiodic thngs I've ever heard. You ever wonder why those astrovans choose to seal the wall from the area behind it? Ever wonder why when competitors build walls in cars with trunks, they seal the trunk from the cabin? Every wonder why it's easier to get higher spl numbers in small cars than it is in astrovans? I can use 2 15's in a civic to get the same numbers that your astrovan is puttin up with 12 15's. I doubt that you even know anything about car audio now that you posted this.

Really what accomplishments have you done? Have you been sponsered? Have you been to Daytona Nationals. If you have then maybe you saw both of my cars there?? I have been involed in SPL competition since 1990. Obviously you didn't read my post too well. I said if you put a wall between you (in the drivers seat) and the woofers (in the rear of the vehicle) IT WILL NOT CREATE PRESSURE. My question to you is how do you create pressure when the woofer is not ocupying the same air space as YOU. I have been posting here for about 2 years and I always see these post in the audio section and I try not post unless I know what I am talking about. I really don't like to be called an idiot when I have personally built sound systems that have hit 174 db!!!!! So please don't call me an idiot, I know what I am talking about. I don't want to get into a pissing match with you (trial user) but I would leave the real audio questions to people who know what the F@#$ they are talking about. Keep on building your garage stereo systems and leave the real stuff to the professionals. By the way are you MECP Certified??

MECP certification means nothing in the car audio world, which you'd hear from about ANY reputable audio shop. How many systems have you seen come out of Best Buy or Circuit City win comps? Exactly, but they are all certified! Idiot. And if you were a true installer then you'd know that by my saying sealing the trunk from the cabin, you would have the subs in the same air space that the mic would be in...doesn't take a genius to figure that one out. If you are the installer of those systems I'm sure you could posts links to them on the web showing that you are the one who built them right. You didn't do that, which makes me think you are even more false....idiot.

In the same air space..idiot. But it's not a comp system either, or could you not tell that from your angle sitting at the computer? You never answered my questions Mr. MECP Cert....

Calm down, you don't have to break any SPL records in trying to prove your point.
