Koni Yellows with stock eg springs.
I am thinking of pairing up my yellows with the stock eg springs, just getting tired of the stiff setup, maybe I'm growing up? I would like to know how low can the Yellows' perches be dropped? I know it won't be much of a significant drop with stock springs, but how low do the perches go down? They are not the threaded shocks. I would like to know if anybody has done this before. I heard Lee Grimes, aka CRXLee would know something about this, so I registered on this board. So if you see this, let me know thanks.
i dont understand your question...you want to put good struts on ur car with stock springs? and you wanna know how much the struts are good to lower? my friend has them on his 3inch dropped hatch and the ride is nice...so i can imagine on a car with stock springs it will be amazing...youll get the performance but im sure it will be stiffer then stock shcks....if i didnt answer ur qustion lemme know...because i wasnt sur what you were asking really.

He was mainly asking how much the perches will drop the springs from the stock height. From what I remember it's not much, maybe .25" or so. Calling Koni is easy enough, and you can ask for Lee on the phone.
My Koni Yellows drop by Miata about .5-.75" all around.. Works great! The Koni Yellow basically have 3 locations to install the thing that holds the springs in place.. top setting is higher than stock, middle setting is stock and lowest setting lowers the car. I have stock springs with my Koni, works great!

it was me the refered frostcivic to HT in search of Lee.
I believe the perches are good for 1/2" +/- adjustment over stock ride height.
I'll let Lee handle the rest of the question.

The normal KONI sports with an adjustable spring perch for the EG/Del Slo will lower the front one inch (25mm) and the rear about between 1/2 and 3/4 inch (15mm). Here is a link to the KONI North America site that mentions all options for this car:

You can also get the Neuspeed SP3 version of the KONI Sport which is exactly the same valving and length but gives you more optional spring perch locations (two above stock and two below stock). I don't think they will take the car any lower than the existing Sport perch grooves will though.
We made these adjustable perches so you could knock a little height off the car but still take advantage of the stock spring ride quality. When I started with KONI, I had a 90 mile each way commute to work that was all interstate. I bought a stock '90 CRX Si as the sacrificial mileage ***** (1000 miles per week if it went nowhere else) and kept it generally stock except an intake and a decent cat back. This car was about reliability in all weather and keeping it comfortable while improving the handling. I put on KONI Sports with the perches in the low position and keeping stock springs. This woke the car up with improved handling and was still plenty comfortable for the steady 80 mph highway dues paying drive.
Sometimes guys will use these on cars that they must share with the wife but she doesn't want to car to be lower thinking that it will become harsher on lowering springs. The perch-only lowering will knock out some stock fender gap but doesn't have the "this car is lowered" look. One of the guys I work with's wife drives a 50,000 mile '98 Civic sedan and she always threatened him "don't you do anything to my car". When she left on a business trip, he put on Sports and lowered it with perches only. When he picked her up at the airport in her car, she did a double take and said "Did you wash my car? It looks better" without knowing what he'd done. He said she drove home about 5+ mph faster than she usually drove but was much faster on ramp curves but she had no idea at all. The car just felt more controlable and sure so without knowing it she drove quicker in full control. The next day he told her what he had done and she has kept it that way.
I rarely see the EG page but can usually be contacted in the RR/AX forum if anyone needs any suspension or KONI info. You can reach me by IM or call me or any tech guys at KONI at 859-586-4100.

My recommendation is to have a shop put the shocks on the stock springs. I did the fronts on my del Sol and it was an absolute nightmare with my cheap and crudely modified spring compressors.
This is stock springs with the koni yellows dropped as far as they will go
I'd still rather go with some different springs though-the suspension just doesn't feel balanced. I'd say pm me if you have any other questions but since you're a trial user I'm not sure if you can do that so feel free to post any other questions you have.
