The H22 I am building.
Just felt like showing a couple pics and words about my setup. The engine is in assembly stage, within a week or two I will have completed pics of it.
The Block:
JDM H22A1 Closed Deck
Factory Crank, BARELY knifedged.
Crower Connecting Rods
CP Pistons - Stock Bore
Benson Sleeves - w/ Copper O-Ring
Removed Balance Shafts
DETAILS: I sent the block to Earl. Earl got it sleeved and O-Ringed by Benson for me. I love the work done. I only had 2 complaints. If you look in the 2nd pic, whatever he was using to shave the o-rings left little nicks on the deck surface. We left these alone as they are not severe enough or in the right spots to cause any problems. Second complaint was that the O-Rings step was not even all the way around. My local machinist had the equiptment to even it out.
My overall satisfaction with the Earl/Benson transaction is 99%
Earl was AWESOME, he answered the phone whenever I called, and he kept me 125% updated on what was going on and authorized all credit charges with me before charging, and also kept summarized lists of all charges. (I had 3 blocks done). Once again, I highly recommend doing business with them. Never had a complicated transaction like this ever go so smoothly.
The Head:
Stock Casting resurfaced deck, no port work.
Ferrea 1mm Oversize Valves
Crower Dual Valve Springs
Crower Retainers
Stock JDM Camshafts
Stock Cam Gears
DETAILS: Why not port the head? I didnt because I dont think its really needed. These Honda cylinder heads are very nice and I just dont think its needed. After tuning if I am not meeting my goals and expectations then perhaps I will go ahead and have a head ported for it. I put in the springs and retainers because I am not sure where exactly my powerband is going to end up, so I wanted to have a safty margin to play with the revs.
Stock cams and gears? I have only heard of people breaking cams. I hardly ever hear of people appraising them (in these motors at least). I put cams in all the Toyotas 3S motors we do here all the time, but they dont have VTEC. I will play around and see what happens. By the time its assembled I will probably at least put on cam gears so I can tune it out a little if needed. I will use a Greddy dual pressure gauge to moniter exhaust and intake pressure to help me tune the cam gears... along with good ole power curves on the dyno.
The Rest:
Venom intake manifold
STR 68mm Throttle Body
Greddy Type 24 FMIC
Precision SC61-E Turbo
Custom Exhaust Manifold
Fuel Rail, 1000cc Injectors, AEM EMS, MSD Ignition
DSS Stage 3s, Quaife LSD, etc etc etc etc etc
DETAILS: Venom Intake Manifold... I dont like it, but I REALLY dont like stock. HOPING for AiR to release their H22 Carbon Intake Manifold Soon. 68mm... 70 was out of stock so I just took the 68, whateva.
GOALS: I am hoping for mid 400s pump gas, and high 500s race gas. The car is a 94 Civic CX. I am hoping it will be fast.

Well... I would be upset about it if I wanted to have it taken care of and they were not willing. However, I never even gave them the chance to make it right. I just had it done locally cause it wasnt expensive. I am sure that if I expressed that I cared, based on the customer service I got... I am almost positive they would have taken care of it for me if I were to have made them aware of it and asked them to correct it.
Its not super vital that it be so even... but my personal local machinst is the pickiest they get, and he takes every single step far beyond what is needed. Hes used to building compound turbo tractor pulling engines that makes thousands of HP.

well... everyone should always check everything. you never know what your getting or if there was some wierd misunderstanding between you and someone else doing work on your stuff. for example what if you didnt check the rod bolts torque and you thought the guy torqued them?
lesson to learn, check everything.
as for what would have happened if i HADNT check... I think it would have been fine. They were BARELY off just enough that the pickiest guy you ever met with some hardcore precision equiptment would want to take care of.
im sure it would have been fine, i cant fathom how the SLIGHT difference could have had any negative effects.
