Picked up my finished cage the other day from Russ @ Racetechfab.com

I have to say, it was well worth the drive from Seattle to Portland to have him fabricate my cage. Design and quality are top notch (price kicked *** also)!

Looks familiar. I like how he's doing the extra vertical brace at the drivers a-pilar these days. He hadn't started doing that when he did mine. I'd like to add that and add a third row to my nascar bars. Get some paint on it before it rusts too badly.

What are you plans? SCCA or Conference? I'll most likely go Conference GP.

 

Plans are to finish the car in time to get my novice races in next season and hopefully a conference race or two.

just a question to you and kirk actually, who ive seen include that vertical bar down the A pillar. did you guys consider BEFORE adding this bar the effect of visibility to the side mirror before putting it in? seems like an easily made oversight i would caution everyone to consider before adding the bar.

It actually doesn't block the view at all, there is only a small area that would effect visibility out the side mirror.

Very cool. Do you know how much weight it added?

 

Not sure how much weight it added. I would guess about 75lbs.

 

Please correct me, but is this considered two points? Or is it one point and the other bar is considered to be a shock tower brace?

 

totally one point.

 

Both bars are attached to the same mounting plate. There's requirements as to the size of the plate however. This one is fine.

 

Adding the down tube to driver's door is a major safety improvement to the Honda Civic/CRX. The doors are so long between A-pillar and B-pillar, not having the bar could allow the top of the cage to collapse under certain conditions. The top bar angle is over 55 degrees. Way too steep with out one.

With all of my Stock Car experience, I have seen alot of cages fail when cars flip over. If you lose 10% mirror visibilty, thatwould be a small sacrifice.

So, I would Caution more drivers to add the bar. You can sit in the car while adding the bar to make sure it does not hinder your view.

 

The vertical element on the driver's side visually lines up exactly with the A-pillar and its bar so there is no impact on visibility. I DO lose a chunk of the passenger-side mirror, however - although it was a price I was willing to pay...

Painted the cage! Nothin' like painting in your driveway.....shhhh, don't tell the EPA.

 

I was going to say: very nice looking cage, but God he needs to paint that...and there it is.

Nice job distributing the color. Looks really good. What paint did you use? How long did it take?

 

I used OMNI MP170....it is a self etching Epoxy Primer. I used to have a Devibliss spray gun..but I could not find it. I bought a spray gun off of EBAY for $24.99, it worked PERFECT! Seriously, I would recomend this gun for the price. The primer was a two part that I sprayed in the driveway, it worked out fine for the finish I was looking for. Next step is painting the shell Championship White.

It took about 4 hours "prep" which was entirely "to make it look good" then the actual spray time was about 45 min. Then I noticed how many spots i missed, and I went back and did a little "touch up," the next day. I am very impressed with the results.

Cost was about $100 with the spray gun and materials.

 

Looks good so far. Have you test fit & trimmed the dash yet? I'd hate to see you scratch up that nice new paint trying to get the dash back in.

PS, A hammer works pretty good breaking apart the thick plastic on the backside of the dash. Ask me how I know.

 

Hmmm...no I havn't done a test fit. I am afraid too! Actually...I am waiting for the paint to "cure." I think it will take awhile in the 40 degree weather.
