Default 2005 Last year for S2000?

Im a honda tech and today i was told by a "higher up" that starting in 2005 they will end production of the s2000 and start with a american made honda nsx similar to the acura nsx but honda badging and a $100,000 price tag more info to come once i get a websight ...

So s2000 owners hold on your car cause if there stored away -big bucks 10 years from now youll have a rare car!

An AMERICAN made NSX costing 100k and a Honda badge? That might be the worst BS rumor ive ever heard.

You don't replace a $33,000 brand icon with an untested $100,000 car, thats just silly. Thats like Mazda discontiuing the miata to rebadge some European Ford to sell in it's place and charge $60,000 for it, chalk it up as bullshit talk from the dealership.

The S-2000 has been very successful. The new version(2004) has more displacement and torque and an improved suspension. That is what you are likely to see in the future..not a $100K replacement.

Only in the opinion of current S2K loyalists, the idea behind making the "improvments" to the '04 model was to address the cars Jekel and Hyde character. The majority of people I have talked to said they liked the car but didn't like the fact that you had to " drive it like you stole it " to enjoy all it has to offer. Interesting fact that I heard a while ago ( reliable source but can't remember who told me or the precise numbers ) was that when you launch the car from a 7000RPM launch you'll get the advertised 0-60 times but launching at 5000RPM and lower the car will add several seconds to it's 0-60 time. This is in no way stopping me from getting one in a few years but then again I am a honda loyalist and love the engines characteristics. Bottom line is Honda made the car a little more main stream and now we'll have less ******** getting tail happy around every corner in town and killing themselves OR one of us.

I'm raising the BS flag... Half the people that work for Honda, at least around here don't know that much. And I know the NSX is very high in price, but $100k just seems wayyyy too high for a Honda...

Right you are. But I bet 26 extra horsepower and 21 ft-lbs more than the advertised 240/162 will sway your opinion a bit

right YOU are.

but regardless, the statement about the suspension stands. some guy brought up a topic about s2k vs NSX in terms of handling in the nsx forums.

One time back in like 98 or so I heard a rumor that Honda was bringing back the CRX.

They did alright, they gave us the insight. Most Honda rumors spread about new styles of cars from sources other than REAL car magazines typically aren't credible IMO.

I'm with this guy, that's the way it always is with Honda. We're always being told that we are going to get the Civic Type R, or the DC5R, but I'll believe it when I see it. Hope for the best though.

The S2000 started as a limited edition so if it comes to an end, I believe it. But a 100K and Honda badge, I doubt it, Acura will get this first.. The performance better be like better than 911 Turbo and other cars in this class..

American Honda Exec. stated to me that the new nsx will be priced at $70k+

When asked about the s2000 lineup, his comments were, "It will be there for awhile longer."

As for the Type R series coming back to the states... He did not want to comment on whether the Integra (RSX)R or Civic R will be brought over.

I recently went out of town and had the opportunity to have flown next to these guys...

Unfortunately, I heard the same thing about the discontinuation of the S2000 from a Honda exec....some mumbo jumbo that it was planned as a limited production vehicle, hence has to die....did not hear anything about any American produced Honda NSX.....but he did say the new NSX will be quicker and handle better than the Ferrari 360 and will have close to 400 hp....could all be rumor, but this exec went to grad school with me, so I tend to believe him

I'm sure it will last another 2-3 more years and either redesigned or have a new complete car to replace it. It has been a very profitable car for them and I'm sure they would never bow out of the market at a time like this.

Hmm...that's funny. I read somewhere in Road and track that Honda's relaeasing a coupe version of the S2000, maybe that's the replacement after 2005.

I hope to see a coupe version soon. Porsche is getting ready to release a coupe Boxster I think middle of '04 as an '05. Audi's TT, BMW's M Roadster, and Nissan's 350z have had copue versions for a while now. Would only make sense that a coupe would be coming our way, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
