Default Help with tire pressures for auto-x-ing on RE730's?

Hey there,

I just took my R to a parking lot to test out some pressures on my 730's before my auto-x tomorrow, and was very disapointed. I was running them at 37psi up front and 35psi in the rear cold, and the tires are only 2k miles old.

I know I can't expect the same performance as I had out of the original set of 010's, but I'm wondering if there was something that I could do. They were also making a lot of noise. Am I screwed until I have worn them down quite a bit more, or am I running the worng pressure? Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Floyd

I actually like the Re730's just as much as the 010's and maybe a little better.

I have 205/50 and I run them right at 38-39 psi all around. I use my Shocks to adjust the oversteer/understeer of the car so you will have to vary a little. THe RE730 has a super stiff sidewall and doesn't need much more than 38 psi to keep from rolling over. Take them up to 39 if you need the larger variation between front and rear

Was there a bad batch of RE730s made or something? I see a bunch of people like them, and i hear a bunch of people complain about them. There is a Neon i race w/ locally, he had the AVSi on his car, they wore out and he got the 730s, and he HATES them, he gained 2secs in his autox times. He already wants new tires and he just bought these a month ago.

I don't have the RE730's but cheapo Kumho 712's for street tires. Noise has been reduced significantly after I increased tire pressure to 40psi/38psi (F/R). So, for the noise issue, experiment with increasing tire pressure. If you still don't like the tires, wear them out ASAP and start again, or maybe trade with a friend. (P.S.=> I acutally like the Kumho 712's on the street. I autocross on Victoracers not 712's)

I guess i should add, i have the 712s, for street use and autox, and i have done 1 track event w/ them, and i LOVE them, awesome dry and wet handling.

I drove both the 712's and the RE730 on my old GSR and there is a night and day difference in dry handling between the RE730 and the 712. THe 712 is an improvement in tire for any car except the Type-R. It is by no means a RE010 replacement.

If the Neon has NEW RE730's how won't like them. THey need 1000 miles to start gripping like they should. Notice the treadwear rating of 300. THat is cause of the increased tread depth over the RE71 which it replaced. Same great rubber compound lots more tread. These tires get better and better. YOu want phenominal tires just buy Yoko A0032R's for the street. YOu want to save money get the 712's you want a compromise get the RE730.

FYI the Kumho will need a few pounds more air than the RE730 to behave the same due to a more flexible sidewall.
